Villeneuve knocking on F1 doors...

Interesting to see Villeneuve's body language at Monaco this weekend. Look's very keen to get back into an F1 car. It would be great to see him back on the grid, always liked the guy.

Maybe a slot with the USF1 team though I'd like to see him in a top chassis for 2010.

Having seen him fail miserably in a NASCAR a couple of weeks ago, I can see why. Can't see him getting a seat though.

So did Franchitti, and despite that Jaguar test he had, he's quick and adaptable.

NASCAR is a whole different ballgame to other racing disciplines; to judge overall ability on NASCAR performance is one dimensional analysis.

I wouldn't say he's that deserving of a seat - he got demolished by Button in 2003, was it? - but his Sprint Cup performances aren't a measure of his speed and racecraft.

The man is 38 years old and hasn't raced in F1 since 2006.

I know these cars are more to his liking but I think any team signing a 39 year old driver (which he would be for the '10 season) would be crackers to say the least. There's plenty of other, more suitable, candidates.

He was good in his first two years at Williams. But after he won the championship I think his opinion of himself starting writing cheques his talent couldn't cash.

Setting up BAR with that moron Pollock was a vain attempt to build a team around him in a Schumacher-style but he never had the talent or team skills to pull it off.

Would've been good to see him in a Ferrari though, for sentimental reasons. It was quite poignant at Goodwood when he ran Gilles' car in '05.

Of course it is. However that's the only experience I have of him recently, apart from some good results at Le Mans.

Franchitti BTW had just come off the back of a very successful year in Indy car. Won IndyCar Series championship, won four races, including the Indianapolis 500, and three poles.
And is back at the top there now.

One can imagine a scenario with one of the 3 (could be more than that) new entrants, in which he sold himself as the wise old hand who at least was not slow, but whose main purpose was to help get the new car and team sorted.

If JV could recreate the maverick style he started out with in F1 with Williams it would be good to see him back. Trouble is, that is not what any team would be likely to employ him for, especially one of the new ones.

Lauda only had one career comeback after leaving F1. After he left Brabham in 1979 came back and joined McLaren in 1983.

Villeneuve has already had one comeback which was mediocre, a 2nd comeback will not happen.

The two shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath, let alone compared. One of them was a F1 driver.
