Has anyone used the 'Park and ride' style service for the F1 before. Its the first time I've been and I am wondering how long to leave for the transfer? Have heard that its a nightmare and takes ages.

Drive to deanshanger village (where I live) straight through it to whittlebury- about 3 miles on a back road.
Through whittlebury to silverstone- another 2 miles arrive half a mile from main gate avoiding all main roads and hence, congestion.
Have done it many times, PM for specifics if you don't have sat nav.

from memory (a few years since I was last there for a GP) - I thought (as with other major events and other venues) they just changed the flow, so some roads became one way: so just go with the flow until clear of the circuit melee and then navigate your way round to the direction you want to end up.

They normally change the flow on the way out, in which case you follow traffic, left at roundabout towards buckingham, follow road back past deanshanger, 10 minutes you are back on the m1

I used the M40 Park and Ride last year and had no problems. We turned up, were on a bus within ten minutes and reached the circuit in half an hour with no traffic. We did get there quite early though.
Advice to anybody with a general admission ticket. If you want anything approaching a semi clear view of the track on race day you are going to have to arrive mega early

without wishing to be seen as flippant: depends on which side/end of the circuit you get squirted out!

With the M1 and M40 fairly close to East and West, I'd be tempted to just go with the flow until clear and then follow your nose to work your way round if not heading North already.

I mean: no point saying you've got to make a b-line for Towchester if they sling you towards Buckingham or Brackley - might as well run with it and jump on the M40 - then M42 etc to get yourself back to the M1 further up.

You can also drive north up from Buckingham to Whittlebury Golf Club, plod may try to divert you but stand fast and say you are going to the golf club. You are against the flow of traffic the whole way due to the one way systems for all the sheep. Give the club a call to find out cost of parking but wahtever they charge it's worth it as a quick 1/3mile walk and your in the circuit. Also no need to beat a hasty retreat after as you will only have a 4-5 cars in front of you when you leave if you head back to Buckingham.

This is only ok if you have a pass to park at the circuit, an extra £25 I believe.
The tickets I have only offer the option to use the park and ride facilities at Northampton FC or Hinton in the Hedges.

To the OP, It's the first time for me using the Park and Ride. Aiming to get to the P&R site about 7-7:30

for the love of jesus, dont go anyhwhere near the football option
go to hinton, then get on the M40 afterwards.
Northampton football ground will be swamped, and its not far from j 15a of the m1 so traffic will be bloody awful
