Hi everyone,

Something that occured to me the other day, which I know has been touched on here before. Many drivers embroider their blood group and name onto race suits, or have it printed on the cars or helmet, but do paramedics actually pay any attention to it? Isn't there a danger if you test someone else's car or borrow a helmet or suit that the info could be incorrect?

This led me to thinking about ID tags and I'm wondering if there is an existing system where drivers can wear dog-tags or something similar that contain important medical information, in a similar way to diabetics wearing a bracelet for example. If there was an agreed system with marshals, drivers and paramedic crews it could save valuable seconds in an emergency situation. What do people think?

A name and Blood group on a race suit cannot hurt anything but I believe any paramedic will initially use plasma and then cross match blood for type anyhow. Regards any underlying condition / medication etc That would always be a drivers responsibilty to disclose with the medical officer / Course doctor at sign on in the event of an accident at a particular meeting. Common disclosures are notifications of reactions to specific anaesthetics etc.
