Mosley rethinks future over FOTA claims

Formula 1's future has been thrown into turmoil once again, with FIA president Max Mosley saying he is now keeping his future options open because of what he has called 'deliberate attempts' by teams to mislead the media.
Just 24 hours after Mosley reached a deal with FOTA to end the threat of a breakaway series, he has reacted angrily to what he calls 'false claims' made by the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) about the nature of their agreement.
In a letter that Mosley sent to FOTA chairman Luca di Montezemolo, which first appeared on website www.racefax.com but has now been seen by AUTOSPORT, Mosley makes it clear that he is angry at how FOTA has presented the terms of its deal.
And such is his seriousness with which he is treating the matter, that he has told FOTA that his original plan to step down as FIA president in October is no longer definite.
"Given your and FOTA's deliberate attempt to mislead the media, I now consider my options open," wrote Mosley in the letter. "At least until October, I am president of the FIA with the full authority of that office.
"After that it is the FIA member clubs, not you or FOTA, who will decide on the future leadership of the FIA."
Mosley is furious that FOTA representatives have claimed that FIA Senate president Michel Boeri is now in change of F1, that he himself was forced out of office and that he would have no role in the FIA once he steps down in October.
"We made a deal yesterday in Paris to end the recent difficulties in Formula 1," explained Mosley. "A fundamental part of this was that we would both present a positive and truthful account to the media.
"I was therefore astonished to learn that FOTA has been briefing the press that Mr Boeri has taken charge of Formula 1, something which you know is completely untrue; that I had been forced out of office, also false; and, apparently, that I would have no role in the FIA after October, something which is plain nonsense, if only because of the FIA statutes.
"Furthermore, you have suggested to the media that I was a 'dictator', an accusation which is grossly insulting to the 26 members of the World Motor Sport Council who have discussed and voted all the rules and procedures of Formula 1 since the 1980s, not to mention the representatives of the FIA's 122 countries who have democratically endorsed everything I and my World Motor Sport Council colleagues have done during the last 18 years."
The letter makes it clear that unless FOTA moves to address his complaints, then the deal that was agreed on Wednesday could collapse. The letter was sent prior to Thursday's FOTA press conference in Bologna, where Mosley had hoped an apology would be made - something which was not forthcoming.
Mosley said: "If you wish the agreement we made to have any chance of survival, you and FOTA must immediately rectify your actions. You must correct the false statements which have been made and make no further such statements.
"You yourself must issue a suitable correction and apology at your press conference this afternoon.
"Formula 1 is run entirely by our 25-strong team without any help from me or any other outsider. There was no need for me to involve myself further in Formula 1 once we had a settlement. Equally, I had a long-standing plan not to seek re-election in October. It was therefore possible for me to confirm both points to you yesterday."

Completely off the wall, but wonder if his dna shows his dad to be Adolf H.? Max was born in 1940, but 9 months earlier, who knows?

All the more reason why FOTA should have all stood tall and stuck two fingers up at both Bernie and Max. Both these men can never be trusted ever again.
Just set up your new series and rest assured we will come and watch you race in Europe while Max and Bernie see their imperial empire fall apart pretty dame fast.
If they don't then they have to get Max out right now, not in October, otherwise this will run and run and run and run and while it does, it will overshadow a fantastic year for Jenson and Brawn GP.

... so Max is happy to ruin F1 because he thinks that now it looks like he is not in charge. How can anyone accuse him of being a power hungry maniac?This could well be very damaging. It depends on FOTA's response to an extent, but more so on what the FIA proper/Boeri does. I can’t help thinking that Mossy hasn’t endeared himself to Boeri by saying he’s too old to run the FiA.

One wonders if Mossy’s appointees, plus that bloke who organised the block vote for him, have all rallied around him saying that if he’d stuck to his guns they’d have supported him and where’s the cheese and biscuits.
It’s very worrying.
I surely couldn’t have been his plan all along as it’s about the level of a four year old’s tactical appreciation so something must have happened between his capitulation on Wednesday and this somewhat weird press release.
Has he lost it?
What’s Bernie’s take on all this? It is a very real threat to all that debt he’s got.
What we don’t want is an emergency meeting of FOTA.

I can't help feeling that it's Luca and the FOTA members that are the biggest idiots. They just couldn't stop themselves trying to be seen as the last one to give Max a good kicking (which he probably deserves, but that is not the point). Why couldn't they just bite their lips, let MM exit stage left over the next few months and get one with figuring out their strategy for being the best racers in F1 over the future years?

I don't see the FOTA press release as 'a good kicking'. It was positive, with promises of improvement to the spectacle, a commitment to stay for at least three more years with the clear desire to stay longer. There were promises of help for 'smaller' teams and we had the prospect of a full grid. We also had the prospect of clear governance.Mossy seems the think everything is about him, but it is not. He is yesterday's man. These little suggestions that he'll be a big man on the senate are rather silly when, it seems, the senate is virtually powerless under his stewardship.
Considering insults, what about the persoanl attack of Stewart? No apology forthcoming there, but that was a nasty, snide dig at one of the greats of F1. And the loony remark. Still no apology. And both of those, not to mention the insulting way he refered to FOTA members, and certain team principals, at a time when there was little in the way of a response.
From what I can see, mossy has misrepresented the press release and other statements from FOTA and those from its members.
Mangement by threat seems to be all he knows. He's a little man. He's done virtually nothing for motorsport. What he prides himself on, according to his CV on the FiA website, is getting a selection of rather pathetic awards, selling the TV rights for a mess of pottage, and doing the bare minimum his post should demand. And he insults the team principals who've got where they are by sheer performance.
And, of coure, he's aditted to telling lies, time and time and time again.
