Ferrari F1 steering wheel.

Possibly a thread of little interest, but at the Ferrari store in Regent Street they have on display a steering wheel from which year I know not, but it is eye opening just how much input the driver can dial in - how they do it at high speed is a feat of dexterity.

my young son has something very similar from FisherPrice.
think the yellow button plays nursery ryhmes

Brundle did a pre GP piece with Nelson Piquet Jnr specifically on the steering wheels and waht all the buttons do, bound to be on youtube or I player somewhere.
from what i remember, diff settings, currently front wing angle, engine maps, mixture, speed limiters, KERS, pit lane limiter, radio, drinks bottle, various sensors and warnings, and some buttons operate the menu on the screen, so actually do more than one job.

Crazy amount of buttons... In Coulthards piece about kids karting they shown a steering wheel with a digital readout and buttons on it, on karts driven by 10 year olds.

That's pretty much it, I actually wrote my first Dissertation about them but they've moved on considerably from back then (even though it was only 3 years ago).

Actually tried to design a wheel using interface design principles in an attempt to prevent the driver from getting engineer's interface poisoning. Was a bit rubbish, but no teams were interested in helping me.
