It'll be interesting to see that that goes for and what its like. I expect it'll either be a really good buy or a total basket case..

I cant believe you'd leave it outside for over 10 years...

If the bids go much higher it will be madness.

A new body and chassis wouldn't be much more!!

We looked at this one and thought of the following costs which put the car out of the equation!

Rebuilt AJP including sundries and fitting £10,000.00
Exhaust system say £500.00
Re-wire £800.00
ECU £250
Brakes £2000.00
Dampers £1500.00
Seat £200.00
Harnesses £100.00
Re-paint and body work say £1200.00
Powder coat chassis £1000.00 (stored outside in the rain for 12 years could be knackered)
Rose joints say £1500.00
Recovery £200.00
Other unforseen works say £2000.00

Total potential costs excluding purchase costs £21,250.00

Considering the above costs the car aint worth a carrot.

dreamers thoughts as follows
tweaked rover v8 = £5000
£300 to sort the brakes
quick rub down on the chassis
paint looks fine as it is
them tyres look fine
should be good to go in a few weeks
see you on the grid!!laugh
think i'll stick to the taz for now!

Jesus, it's cracked £3K. It was insanity at £2.5K earlier this evening.

Give me £50 and I'll tow it away for you.

Really only any good if you have the part already, I've got an engine and box, but even with that still think it would cost more than I paid for my Tuscan

IF your looking to build a car from scratch its worth looking at, as its all the little bits that add up... starting with a bare chassis to get to rolling chassis with new suspension, uprights, dampers, brakes, diff, steering column etc your looking at circa 15k yikes and complete running cars have gone for that..

at least that tuscan has a body and a cage as well, plus bits like pedal box, maybe fuel tank, sump tanks etc...

Its always going to be cheaper to start with something as complete as possible...

I've taken the route to build from scratch,as I wanted to build it exactly to my spec.. bloody expensive though... having said that you should see the sexy gearbox thats now sat on the bench... dont think i'll put it in a car just on the wall in the lounge hehe

If your racing for fun and to gain experience then this has got to be a good start. No shocks, one thing your going to need. But thats good as you can get some the right length and correct the flaws in damper angles. Chuck it together with a 4.2 cerb wet sump and have some fun. If your starting out its got to be worth 4-5 to you.

I can here you saying discs, rose joints. The gold spec rose joints are almost indestuctible. They used to weather discs in the rain then clean them.

Someone could be racing for a lot less than £10k

If your going to chuck a Rover in it you will have to cut and weld the chassis as this is an AJP chassis car from the photos.

If I had some spare cash I would buy it and have it for spares.

Doubtless the pile of bits has intrinsic value but before rushing headlong into a bottomless pit of doom consider...

1. It has been stored out of use in the open for 10 years
2. It was owned by a tuscan challenge racer

point 1 means that all bushes, shocks, rose joints consumables etc etc will be scrap or at the very least require a full re-build

Point 2 means that (tuscan racers being what they are) anything usefull will have been robbed long ago and a base shell with junk left

The car could be re-built. Anything can be re-built but the reality is that you can buy a Tuscan with an engine and lots of good parts for a lot less than this would cost to build back up properly.

Yes a cobbled together shed on a shoestring is possible but why would you.

also Is the chassis straight?

as for £10k, don't think so.

My cobbled together 60's racer has eaten the best part of £25k with me doing most of the work. Parts all soon mount up cost wise.

Joking aside,
If I'd known what it would cost to get my M to what it will be when it comes back from its current series of work, I sould have walked away from it. I work away from home so much of the work has been by others and the costs for that weigh heavy.

All that aside, cos its history. Buying the car has scratched an itch, I now have a very pretty competitive little car that I can race in any number of series AND it's let me do what I should have done 20 years ago.

If I were faced with the same circumstances now, I'd probably do the same again such is the fun I've had in only a short time!!

There are only very few Tuscans around. To get hold of most of one at less than 5K must be tempting to someone looking at buying a car, especially if they have time and ability on their side.

Money wise it may well end up costing the wrong side of 30K, but you will know its a sorted car with nothing required. Buying an end of season car for 20K will leave you in much the same boat financially when its properly freshened.

I just hope its ends up back on track and not being MOT'd every year to do 500 miles impressing passengers.

I'd say that car is worth £2-3k as spares for someone with an existing car, assuming that the chassis is straight and the bodywork is reasonable.

If someone was looking to rebuild it into a workable car then it would clearly be cheaper to start with a £20k complete car with all the bits already there. Equally, if someone doesn't have £20k but they do have time on their side and £5-6k a year (or a stash of existing spares), I can see why it might make sense at £3k as a starting point to having a working car in 4-5 years time, having got some pleasure out of rebuilding it.

Again, it all depends if the chassis is straight

no need to cut and weld the chassis for an Rv8. My chassis will take either..

I cant quite make out it thats got the rv8 mounts on the downtube, so if not you might need to weld some mounts on, but that and modding the removable gearbox xmember is about all you need to do. pre serp is easier to fit than serp.

To only do one season seems a bit strange, there may be an underlying major issue such as a bent chassis, why else would it be just left to rot?
