Stunning race here!
First the bad news the #8 Sangari C6R crashed very badly completely destroying the back of the car.
The start of the race had seen the 3 Corvettes battling with the 3 Maseratis and Olly Gavin starting the #3 SRT C6R took the race lead with Enrique Bernoldi following closely behind in the #8 C6R. After the #8's demise the next to blink so to speak was the #1 Maserati which crashed heavily at midnight effectively putting the car out of the race for the win. The #33 Maserati then hit problems leaving just the #2 Maserati to battle the remaining two Corvettes.
The race during the night was stunning as the three leaders were never more than about 15 seconds apart and the lead swapped a number of times. The SRT Corvette was incredible unlucky in that Olly Gavin had built a 45 second lead when the safety car was deployed for the #1 Maseratis accident.
As I report this the Maserati is currently leading and pulling away from the #4 C6R and the #3 C6R is running in third, but there are still 7 hours to go........go Corvettes!!

Good news and bad news, the #2 Maserati crashed out leaving the two Corvettes battling for the overall win of the 24 Hours of Spa! Unfortunately the #3 had a oil line split and after a number of pit stops was effectively retired from the race although the plan is to do the last lap so that the car is classified. This has left the #4 corvette with a 12 lap lead going into the final hour meaning that all the really have to do is run for another 30 minutes to win the race.....everything is crossed and if I had another willy I would be crossing them too!

Similarly SRT were so unlucky to have oil problems with their C6R when in a strong position to challenge for the overall win. The oil problems meant there was more oil on the outside of the engine compared with the inside which is never a good thing. They replaced a split crank case oil line but it was still leaking oil from somewhere and also the oil pressure started to fall hence the reason the parked up until the last 10 minutes.Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
