Britcar at castle combe
Discussion
Yes i know its few weeks away yet its just us regulars always get the jitters when GT cars are mentioned due to the noise restrictions imposed on the circuit.
The days of proper GT racing may well be a distant memory unless of course Britcar is about to change that?
So who can we expect to to enter a good head of GT cars would be really good its just with the restrictions will this put off teams entering,we hope not we had to endure a 75 min Radical race in the G&B with just 13 cars hopefully Britcar can provide the usual masses at Combe a decent entry and a the propect of seeing some proper GT cars

I think it is 105, that's what our 996 is clocked at and we haven't been asked to reduce from this level as far as I know.
As we are definitely competing in this round we might play it safe and add a couple of ground facing extensions to bring it down to 102 but even at 105, several of the class 1 and maybe some of the class 2 cars may find it a problem.
I think there will be a very good turnout for the combined Britcar GT and Britcar Production race but the very fact that it is combined, although there are often several reasons for this, leads one to believe that a number of the top running cars may be absent due to the noise restrictions.
I hasten to add that this is just a guess on my part as I have no direct information to support the contention.

It is supposed to be 108 Rod...its a bloody shame tho the nimbys really ruined any chance of a major GT championship visiting i'm not knocking Britcar but i quess you know what i mean although if the major players did not enter i can't feeling a little robbed...........we shall have to wait and see;) As we are definitely competing in this round we might play it safe and add a couple of ground facing extensions to bring it down to 102 but even at 105, several of the class 1 and maybe some of the class 2 cars may find it a problem.

Someone else said they thought it was 108, so I may have got it wrong at 105, whatever it is in that range, it will exclude some cars and I know that when we raced there with British GT a few years back the writing was on the wall, hence they have never returned. The local residents that complained about the noise levels were not at all interested in compromise, quite a few moved to Castle Combe knowing full well that the track had been there for years, I gather some who bought new or refurbished houses even got offered a discount or demanded one by way of compensation, selfish so and so's.Anyway, Britcar and the other support series will put on a good show and hope that race fans will turn out in numbers to cheer us on. Going back to TVR Tuscan days, I remember up to 25,000 fans over the race weekend, good old days back then.

not the same, but also not bad for something 20 years down the line.

yet other championships either can't be bothered or just don't want too its a crying shame that Combe has to miss out on the likes of the other GT championships stiil its great you're coming to Combe.
The next excuse for the top teams no show will be the BUMPS LOL;)
As i said above i've heard all the excuses!!he he
The 6hr and 24hr races at Silverstone are 102db.
This was self impposed so that Silverstone Village and Wittlebury both can get a night's sleep.
This was put in place in 2002, 3 years prior to the first 24 hr, this agreement was made by me and the villages and Silverstone Circuits were never involved.

It just goes to show what can be done James with a little effort;)This was self impposed so that Silverstone Village and Wittlebury both can get a night's sleep.

It makes me feel tho theres more to it than just noise where castle combe is concerned,i don't think the bumps help either but its the same for everyone at least you've made an effort so thanks for bringing Britcar to Combe;)

With the new silencer this year we are running the 935 at 100db! So there is no excuse, it can be done easily.
OK, I admit, its not as much fun as its so quiet, bring on open exhausts!
Crikey that must be a huge silencer then lolOK, I admit, its not as much fun as its so quiet, bring on open exhausts!
But great you've made the effort it just a pity others don't seem to want to make an effort[exculding Britcar it seems] its nice to hear the sounds but with the way the nimbys work these days give em ammo the councils hold up thier arms and do what they say no matter about the masses who attend circuits to watch our beloved sport out number them in Combe case it was only 5 complainers!!
says it all really

Although the council did allow 108dba so i suppose we have to be thankful we still have a circuit to attend

The silencer is actually not that big at all. In fact its lighter than the last one (perhaps that is more a reflection on the oldercans we used before!) People have asked if it has had a negative effect on performance but we have measured output since the change and there seems to be no difference whatsoever.
We now dont fear the noise tester, as before we were always on the edge, but now its a doddle!

108 db for race days
102 db for test days
98db for track days
Actually levels are as follows;102 db for test days
98db for track days
Race days and Pre Race Test Days (Thursday before the weekend) = 108dBA (championship regulations may specify a lower limit ie. 105dBA for Britcar)
Silenced Test Days = 105dBA
Track Days = Either 100dBA or 105dBA depending on the planning permission (most are 100dBA). Friday 7th August is 100dBA
These limits are similar to most venues, please don't be frightened off by inaccurate information such as posted by tux. We do however have to tightly enforce these limits to comply with our strict planning rules.
