The CA was signed yesterday evening. I suppose what held it up was BMW's reluctance to sign something that is supposed to be binding.
An interesting footnote to the press release is that the teams have promised to provide " all the necessary support" to BMW Sauber if they continue in modified form.
So as far as the CA is concerned it is back to 1998.
I bet old Mosley enjoyed getting his pen out for that one.

I think the BMW announcement was a pointer. They had to make a decision. Or, perhaps, they could look to it for an excuse.

Agreed, the summary report will make interesting reading.....the budget issue seems to have gone away very quickly

Apparently so, plus FIA and FOG.My guess is that they'll give BMW a bit of time to decide whether they're signing. Alternatively, the FIA could invite whatever applicant "finished fourth" in their recent new-entrant vetting. Not sure how that would work, however, insofar as the new teams absolutely, positively had to know by mid-June whether their applications would be accepted, which was why the FIA set its May deadline for the established teams to re-apply.

"They've been opposed to Max Mosley who wants to reduce the costs, which has proved to be necessary and that's what its all been about.
"They think Max has run things the way he wants to and in the end they wanted to do their own Championship, which they should have known they couldn't do anyway.
"It's all done now, everybody's signed so it's all good."

even with the recent talk of mclaren and williams considering the possibility of using KERS next year, as much as i would like to see it from a personal PoV, i can't see the board of BMW doing a u-turn.

Chatting to someone who knows about this kind of thing, he confirmed that Toyota and Renault have both signed the Concord agreement, yet neither has actually confirmed they'll be in F1 next year. Big rumour is that Toyota will announce their exit too, but perhaps retain the engine deal with Williams. Backing this up is the fact that Trulli hasn't yet seen the contract for next year.
If the £/$/E whatever 40m cap is agreed, consensus is that Renault will stay in F1.

The £40M cap was dropped in favour of a "figure to match what they were spending in the early 1990's", if that's a real figure, or with inflation, it could be somewhere between $40M (note $$$$$) and $75M. By 1999, (when I last worked in the industry), top budgets (McLaren for example) were around $200M, with Ferrari's being a bottomless pit of Mafia / Italian Government FIAT money. Jordan were up to around $110M, with Stewart GP closer to $60M. Remember that the $vs£ at the time was around $1.7:£1
