I want to go to Rally GB...
Discussion
We go down on Thursday evening ready for stages on Friday morning, afternoon and then Saturday.
This is how we do it
Thursday camp up at the stage late evening. A few bevvies and watch the fireworks (impromptu!) barbecue for dinner.
Friday morning up early, another barbie for breakfast and then onto the stage, watch till the end, then back for another barbie for lunch. Then watch the second running of the stage. Towards the end of the second running make a dash for the exit before the crowds.
Friday evening head to the service stop, this year it is Cardiff, you get close to the teams and get to see them carrying out some heroic repairs to the damaged cars. Being in town also allows you to replenish supplies at a supermarket and also use a proper toilet at said supermarket and also buy food.
Late Friday evening head up to the next stage you fancy, pitch up and have some more bevvies and food, tent overnight.
Saturday morning repeat Friday's watching both stages. I'm not sure if there will be a super special in Cardiff this year, the schedule doesn't seem to show one, but if it does it is well worth going.
Tips, bring very warm clothing and proper waterproofs, the welsh mountains at the end of the year can be very bleak. I wear warm clothes, golfing waterproof trousers, a fleece, a warm winter coat and over the top a set of offshore waterproofs, fully waterproof, plus hat and gloves and rigger boots with walking socks. The number of people who come ill equipped is amazing. Also make sure you're not pitched on a spring, your tent will fill with water and sleeping is grim. Don't ask how I know. I have now bought a US military modular sleep system which is 2 sleeping bags that connect plus a goretex waterproof liner, the thing is meant to be useable to minus 50 degrees Fahrenheit so should manage. Bring plenty of fuel for your barbies as you can use them to keep warm.
Enjoy!!
