Does make me wonder why theres no catch fencing in that area though, especially with vehicles arriving at such high speed.

The end of Pilgrims drop by the looks of it. The fastest part of the GP track and not a good place for that to happen. Lucky lucky man. That could've ended up a whole lot worse.

MUCH slower though. Martin's crash was at Hawthorn and he was seriously shifting. Morias' crash was much slower speed and at least involved a bit of slowing down.

If there was catch fencing Chris would probably be in the Morgue. The catch fencing is put there to protect the public and there is no public access to the outside of the track at that point.

It's one of those corners that you always think, 'you really do not want to be crashing there......'. Although, having said that, I've been watching all forms of bike racing for 20-odd years and I still wince whenever a rider has an off. Corser at Sugo in '99 (?) was a classic case in point. Looked a pretty innocuous crash, medium speed corner, just fell on his right hand side. Ended up with a ruptured spleen IIRC and was fighting for his life for a couple of days.

James Haydon & John Crawford had a coming together there a while ago. The speed as they flew by the camera was terrifying...
