Very Quick Kart Racer needed for the Teesside 24hr

Hi All,
I have entered a 4 man team in the British 24hr at Teesside. Unfortuneately, one of the drivers has had to pull out leaving us 1 short. The event starts on Friday the 28th of August with Driver registration and 3 hour Practice session, qualifying starting the following day for 30 mins (fastest driver in practice will do the whole qualifying). The race starts at 12pm and finishes at 12pm Sunday. The cost is £225.00 for 6 hours racing time which is huge value for money.
The stints will be 2 hours long which is extremely hard on the body mentally and physically so it is preferable you will have done events like this before and managed consistently quick lap times as we do feel like we have a chance of finishing well in this event (we managed 27th (8th in class) at the Le Mans 24 hour in July after a host of problems that dropped us down to 43rd at one point)

Hi all,
Thank you for all the e-mails. We as yet haven't managed to fill the spot even though i have spoken to a number of people who can't get the time off as it's just too short notice. Please note that it is not nesscery that you come on the friday as there is a practice session on the saturday morning so that you can learn the track. Please e-mail me if you think you can make it as i'd like to get it sorted by Friday this week. If the le mans 24 hour kart race is anything to go by then it should be a great event and is also amazing value at just £75 per 2 hour stint!

mite be aboul the help. the time off work is so much of a issue more the fact that i go away on holiday again on the 2nd of sept so its more down to cost. Im not the worlds fastest driver but have 2 years + of owner ship of 125 2 stokes under my belt and my last 3h race i came in 3rd.

Finished 12th in class which wasn't bad considering we only had 3 drivers (1 with a heeling fractured wrist) After the joke that was the start
our first driver got punted off in to the gravel in the second corner of the first lap which cost us about 40 seconds but we worked hard and got up to 5th in class when i got a slow puncture and a engine problem cost us 10 laps and dropped us down to 18th in class. We had the pace to finish top 4 in class but i think team usa's kart had been 'played' with as it was soooooo much quicker down the straight it was unreal! Had them matched and even beaten in most of the corners but as soon as you got down the really straights you had no chance. Don't know how or who would have done such a thing but i'm sure that it will be great publicity in the USA for the event for them to win...... Roll on the Daytona 24 hour.
A really big thank you to Graham E and his family. Graham was excellent to have in the team and was consistently quick even after his unfortunate rib injury. Great to meet you and look forward to racing with you again.

I just figured they were light, but they looked of average build at the presentation. Some karts were clearly quicker than others but I heard they were a super-experienced team so they were probably quick anyway. They seemed to slow down a lot in the last 8 hours though and we overtook them a few times in the later stints.
12th in class? You must be an RDI driver then? I was expecting to see Baz but I heard he dropped out last-minute.
We qualified 51st with a dicky left engine but when it wouldn't start to take it to the grid I called into the garage and got it replaced, just in time to make the start. Fortunately it held for the race and we managed 5th in class. Kart number 72, Jolly Good Racing.

It was a great race though, it just get's better evry year (this is the third year we have done it)

The great thing about 24 hour racing is that the race is long enough that a little bad/good luck probably doesn't affect the result too much. We got the short end of the stick on 8 of the 10 'safety car'/red flag periods but come the end of the race we were two laps clear of 6th place and two laps shy of 4th place, so probably didn't have any impact on our result (assuming the teams in 4th and 6th had mixed fortune from them).
On a huge positive note, once we'd had the left engine replaced after qualifying (insisted on that when they put tools to it for the third time, even before the race had started) we had no more major problems with the kart. We're not normally that lucky!
Great result finishing 5th from there. Well done.
My team was RDI and barry did have to pull out at the last min but we tried our best and considering everything i think we did well. I ended up doing nearly 11 hours in the seat! Man do i hurt today! Lol
I Don't know about the lead in the helmets but i know of at least 10 other teams as well as a top 6 finishing owner kart team who have all questioned the straight line pace of that kart. If the engine thing is true then it's a real shame as it spoils what should be a cracking event and one hell of a venue! I really enjoyed the track and would love to try something quicker round there. I'm going go see if daytona will take the rotax there next season instead of hooton park which is a god awful curcuit.
