Winning either F1 Championship in the team's first season
Discussion
As title really.
BrawnGP has come in and dominated in effectively their first season as that team. Assuming they win either the Constructor's or Driver's Championship, will they be the first team ever to have done so in their first season racing F1?
Note: Yes, I'm aware that Brawn are basically the old Honda team, but there haven't been any proper "ground up" teams in my recollection since BAR (which is in fact the Brawns anyway!).

BAR came from Tyrell. I think the last new 'ground up' team was Toyota in 2001. I cant think of any other teams.BrawnGP has come in and dominated in effectively their first season as that team. Vanwall obviously will be the first because they won the first F1 World Championship way back in 1958. Since then nobody in their first season has won a constructors World Championship first time out, one or two hav come close....Matra with Jackie Stewart...
Regarding Drivers....Bruce McLaren came second in 1960 his first year in F1. J Villeneuve also came second to Damon Hill back in 1996.

March won their first F1 race, as did Wolf F1.Regarding Drivers....Bruce McLaren came second in 1960 his first year in F1. J Villeneuve also came second to Damon Hill back in 1996.
Giancarlo Baghetti won his first ever race.I can't think of another driver who has done that.
As the OP said either the drivers world championship or the constructors championship in their first year, then the only correct answer is no,Brawn will not be because Giuseppe "Nino" Farina won the first ever drivers world championship in 1950 in an Alfa Romeo (as the drivers world championship did not exist before 1950 it had to be Alfa Romeo's first year in the championship and yes, I am aware that the constructors championship did not start until 1958).
Farina winning the first championship ever also gives Him the distinction of being the first driver to win the title in His rookie year.

The original question was about Formula 1; weren't Formula 1 races held before 1950?Farina winning the first championship ever also gives Him the distinction of being the first driver to win the title in His rookie year.

Super Aguri was a 'ground up' team if you consider that they paid their way in as a new team and disregard where they got their chassis from Actually Tyrell, surely?

No. There were Grand Prix races held before 1950, but the first ever Formula 1 world championship race was held at Silverstone in 1950.
The original question doesn't specify championship races. I though F1 races started in about 1948?It's odd, I never really though about it until having a discussion about it today. Does the fact that BrawnGP was Honda only a year ago make their (provisional) success less impressive? Or is it even more impressive, given that from what I can glean from this thread, previous first-timers are usually victims of circumstance rather than overcoming the odds?
Interesting to exclude Brawn. You could argue they qualify:
OK so the team in ex-Honda, as is the factory and the car was designed by HOnda last year BUT:
-It never turned a wheel as a Honda, only as a Brawn
-When Honda was designing it, they would not have thought about the Honda engine. Extensove redesign would have been needed to make the Mercedes engine fit
-Honda sold the company,
