Briatore distraught, legal action and alternative F1

Reports that Briatore is "distraught" at threatening legal action.

Be interesting to see if he does and what comes out in the wash with it.

As for a rival F1, think hes in cukoo land with that.

Flavio Briatore says he is devastated by his life ban from Formula One and may take legal action against motor sport's governing body.

The flamboyant former Renault team boss was handed the sentence by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) yesterday for for his role in fixing last year's Singapore grand prix by ordering Nelson Piquet Jr to crash. "I am distraught," the 59-year-old Italian was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport.

From what Max was saying during the whole situation with FOTA forming their own race series a few months back I get the impression that Flavio is not particularly liked by him, kept referring to him as a loony and mentioning that he thought that Flavio saw himself as the Bernie 'character' in the alternative series... It all seems a nice clean & easy way of the FIA getting Flavio out of the way to me.

Much as I am uncertain of whether I particularly like Flavio or not, I get the impression that he is not exactly a sit quietly and do nothing kind of guy, which I'm sure is what Max particularly dislikes about him.

Has anybody seen any of the evidence. Much of it seems to be from NP jr and that source for me is poisoned. If NP and NP jr are the only evidence I'd be pretty pissed off myself.

none of it really concrete, it's just NPJ's word, then symmonds agree's with some of it, disagrees with other bits, and flav just seems quite confused.

Right, the case has been discussed at great length on other threads, so lets not clutter this one with that stuff.

I don't like Briatorre, I'm happy that he's out of F1, I don't think the WMSC hearing was handled in any way other than a corrupt way, but the outcome was largely satisfactory for F1 as a whole. Cards on the table.

Now, what I'd really like to see is a great big legal battle Flavio vs the FIA, loads of money thrown at it, lets get all the facts out on the table and some legal scrutiny of the FIAs operations. That would be interesting.

One can't help feeling that it's justice for the cheating that went on in Schumacher's Benetton days aswell as this whole Piquet affair.

Who's going to participate or sponsor a non-FIA event?

Go back to your nightclub, model wife and multi-million bank account Flavio and wonder where it all went wrong...

Doesnt Le mans, and its subsidiarie race meetings come under the banner of the ACO, rather then the FIA? Therefore, he could team manage a le mans campaign.

Head of Spanish motor sport federation Carlos Gracia, a member of the FIA world motor sport council who condemened Briatore in Paris on Monday, admitted he was surprised by the 'excessive' nature of the Italian's punishment.

Speaking to Spanish sports website AS.com, Gracia said: 'Briatore's (penalty) seems to me excessive, there was no clear proof against him and he was not able to defend himself either.

'Morever, I wouldn't rule out him going to ordinary justice because he has been left without his means of earning a living.'

ACO managed, but FiA sanctioned.

I think this is the key bit. He was so heavily involved in F1 from so many different angles, that they have effectively removed his ability to earn a living now, or certainly made it exceptionally hard for him in the short term.

You sure? I thought it was completely separate, hence Le Mans being decent, and the anything FIA based, well a shambles.

This was just really about getting rid of Flavio – Symonds would not have been able to hold his head up had he taken the plea-bargain offered by the FIA. Mad Max had known last year from daddy Piquet that a wrong had been done at Singapore, but carefully chose his moment to act.

He failed to get rid of RD after Spy-gate, but was successful after Lie-gate. He is both vengeful and relentless.

What I would still like to know is what happened to the $100million fine from McLaren. The legal fees that Renault are picking up seem at tad expensive also, perhaps Max had outstanding bills from his own Spanky-gate investigations.

Had Max not backed him, I would have thought that Todt would make a good president, but now you wonder if he has just been selected not to look at the books too closely. I sincerely do hope that Ari does get the job and is able to unpick all of the un-savoury decisions of the Max era.
