ING and MM pull Renault F1 sponsorship

ING weren't going to renew at the end of the year anyway, but now they have pulled out with immediate effect from Renault, but they're keeping their track side sponsorship banners. MM are also pulling out. So the renaults might be looking a bit bare this weekend.

I would have thought that the extra exposure was well worth the 'grief' especially as Flav is not there and the whole matter is closed. Isabel Connor at ING must be going mad.....and will soon be looking for a new job! In F1 sponsorship any media coverage so long as the driver is not hurt is worth every EURO possible....scandal or no scandal.
I would imagine that there are some v good sports lawyers with ING right now trying to get a substantial amount of money recovered for them from the Renault team. This is doubly perfect, lots of coverage and a refund. An immediate withdrawal would be needed to ensure a successful claim. MM have already stated that their contract included "Renault must comply with all the FIA rules and regulations at all times as a competitor in the world championship".

Would be amazing to see, along with Williams Renault reverting to the blue/yellow/white from Canon/Labatts/Camel etc, Lotus returning in 2010, hopefully with JPS colours, and if Mercedes pull out of their McLaren partenrship, which I know is just a wild stab in the dark at the minute, who knows, red & white McLarens?

It would be nice to see the Lotus, even though it isnt a Lotus, just the name being used, in JPS colours, yes they were the red bull of the 80s but black and gold was so simple it was brilliant, hmmmmm wonder if you could call it

If Renault do stay on next year it's hard to see how they will do it with Sponsors, the effect of association is strong and those two sponsors pulling early is not good. . .they were leaving anyway but the point has been made. . .the team has been soiled, why spend your millions there when other 'clean' teams are available.
I expect Renault will soon realise the 2010 bidged is going to be a lot smaller, will Renault plug the gap?

Part of it was the fact that Renault (read Flav, pat, PK and X) lied about the accident. MM is an insurance company, they didn't feel they could be associated with a team that does this.XJSJohn said:

I guess I'd better be pedantic and point out it's Canon not Cannon - seeing as I work for them 
Funny that they wouldn't sponsor my Westfield this year, must've been saving up for F1

I wonder if they paid out for PKs accident?Actually that raises a serious point... I know you have to have race insurance at club level but do F1 cars have insurance and would Renault have claimed? I guess its arranged through FOTA.

I'll tell you guys all about it on Monday ..... just been given a pair of weekend tickets in the ING VIP Box ....
Guess i won't be getting any garage walks though given that they hdon't actually have a car to sponsor!!!
Ohh and BalhamLotus if you read this, was given them just as I got back from swapping with you!!
However those tickets have been passed onto a good cause as have my Sunday tickets to others that had just arrived in town and not been able to get tickets!!!
