Interesting as they would have the funds and an Audi or Porsche team would look attractive
Volkswagen Group will consider entering Formula One in the future if the costs become lower, according to a senior Audi official.
Reinhold Carl, managing director of Audi Singapore, told the Straits Times newspaper that the VW Group would consider an entry if the benefits outweighed the costs involved.
"If the cost is lower, it will be more manageable," said Carl. He claimed despite the cost cutting measures ongoing in the sport, the cost for entry were "well over a hundred million euro [£92.5m]" per year.
Jaguar, Honda and BMW have all pulled out of F1 in recent years and doubts still remain over Renault's long term future in the sport and particularly Toyota's.
Carl is not convinced that being involved in the sport brings substantial gains to manufacturer teams. When asked what any VW team would be branded as, Carl said the Porsche and Audi names could be used "or even Volkswagen".

I read a very informative article about 5 years ago, about porsches long term aspirations to a) buy VW then b) go formula 1 racing. The reason being they wanted a giant behind them when they returned, and not to be there as a little guy.
For their sakes I hope the F1 racing bit goes a bit smoother than the VW purchase.

What are you saying?Although as has been said: if there was the will, the regs could be revised, but why do it just to suit one manufacturer.....
I really really hope they don't even contemplate it! letting oil burners into Le Mans and WTCC has been an awful mistake - they can't get the equalisation formula right

I occasionally watch the BTCC or WTCC but can't really get into it because of the mixture of cars- FWD, RWD, petrol, diesel and like you say the weird equalisation penalties which it strikes me are never going work when the cars have fundamentally different characteristics and will work better or worse at different circuits. To have one car "win" when another is heavier because it's better is contrived and frankly ridiculous. F1 might be accused of being a snooze fest but it's pure, one car wins cos the team did the best job.hairyben said:

Previously they got little less kudos than they should have from the hugely successful TAG project
Porsche should be in top line Sportscar racing, the LMP2 ALMs car proved they still know what theyre doing.
