So who they going to replace it with? Renault? Might be better for packaging their KERS system? Cosworth? Porsche/Audi/VW
What do we think then?
Renault are strongly tipped to power Williams. They are not going to power Red Bull next year, and the French will only piss and whinge about job losses if the available engines are not taken.

I think that the Porsche/Cosworth link up will only happen to Red Bull. The other teams running Cosworths will be badged as Cosworth. This could change should Porsche/VAG buy Cosworth.
Williams backed down on it's desire to run KERS next year. Which is a shame as it is possibly the only system which is viable to use in road cars in the long term.

Some of the stuff you write is pretty near true - especially the comments on Flybrid, although you should not discount Xtrac's own version - similar in concept to Flybrid's, but do you think that Williams are really going Renault? The rumours are strong that they have already signed with Cosworth. I hadn't heard anything about the Porsche link though....I think that the Porsche/Cosworth link up will only happen to Red Bull. If Williams do go with Cosworth it will make their lives easier as they have run that engine before. Packaging will be easier for them.
I have heard that Renault is a first choice as the Cosworth unit might need to be equalised part way through the season as it is an unknown quantity after 3 years out.

As I posted elsewhere, I cannot figure out why Williams would switch to Cosworth - as you said, it's not had the benefit of several seasons' running in competition
it was one of the most powerful engines before they were frozen out and with the engine development freeze they shouldnt be far away.Project 644 said:

Cosworth left before the dev freeze.
The season before the development freeze came in. The engine was homologated for the freeze. It "shouldn't" be any different from the other engines.10 Pence Short said:
There will be significant differences because the manufacturers who've stayed in have continued to evolve the systems surrounding the frozen parts to improve performance. The extra performance of the Mercedes engines against the ones who are still here is an example of this.
Also evidenced by the waiver for Renault engines this year!zac510 said:

You think that the FIA's chosen engine will not be given "catch up allowances"?
...of course they will, but you said in an earlier post there'd be no difference, which as someone else has said cannot be true, given the breaks Renault needed. Has the Cosworth run with the McLaren SECU for instance?Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
