In 10 years time, which F1 driver will have won the most championships? Lewis,Vettel,Alonso,B.Senna,Schumi?Who?

Has to be Schumi, if Alonso wins it for the next five years he can only tie.

Ignore Schumi, as nobody will match that within 10yrs and he has retired.

Of the rest it will be Lewis, I can see him landing between 3-5 of the next 10 championships.

There is no driver significantly better than the rest to the extent Schumi was.
There is no team significantly better than the rest as the Todt/Brawn/Byrne ferrari team was.
IMO There is no driver and team combination who are both as readily willing to 'bend the rules' as Schumi and ferrari.


I think Schumi's record will stand for quite some time, shame the legend is somewhat ruined by the dubious manner he went about some of it. 5 or 6 fairly won championships would be more impressive than his 7 with questionable decisions along the way.

Lewis has the talent, but Macca have an unrivalled ability to underachieve relative to their budget.

If Merc can get Vettel in the Brawn, could be good,

Alonso relying on Fezza not to crumble now the Italians are in charge.

Either way, a few great years in prospect.

The amount of talent in both teams and drivers on display is what has drawn me back into f1 again. All they need to do now is tweak the aero a bit more to sort the overtaking, and we could well have a fantastic decade of f1 on our hands.

If McLaren got themselves back into the shape of the late 80s, earliy 90s, with the current strength of the Merc engine and with Hamilton (and maybe Button) on board, they'd be unstoppable.

Only one driver in the sport has the speed of Senna and the determination of Villeneuve.
While in this day and age, that doesn't even guarantee you a place on the grid, when you have the best engine behind you and the best chassis wrapped around you, you'll be hard to beat.

Hamilton, Mercedes and McLaren.

I have a feeling, one day we'll talk about Lewis and McLaren in the same way people talk about Clark and Lotus, and Schumacher and Ferrari.

10 years? It will be Schum.

It took over four decades for Fangio's five titles to be superseded. It could take just as long for Schumacher's seven.

The field is now more competitive than ever. We've got four WDCs (Button, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Alonso) and three runner-ups (Vettel, Massa, Barrichello) on the grid; and the constructors are so close to each others' performance, there is barely a second-per-lap difference between them.

It wouldn't surprise me if F1 gets a new WDC for each of the next ten seasons.

The Hamilton fanboys will, I doubt the rest of us will. Clark and Schumacher could win in an indifferent car. Lewis has never had an indifferent car.

If I'm being honest, I hope no driver/team combination is so successful that they beat Michael Schumacher's record of 7 WCs. That was the most boring period in F1!!

I agree with someone else on this thread that maybe we'll see a different champion emerge every year. Who knows, maybe we'll have our first ever Japanese WC in the next 10 years in the form of Kobayashi!

Schumacher won in an indifferent car? Really - ask Alonso if Schumi was about when he won his 2 titles. I am sure that he was.

Not sure why someone said that the Senna and Villeneuve quote should be swapped around....Senna was the fastest driver in Formula 1, Villeneuve was very determined but not hugely fast compared to some of his peer group.

I'm looking forward to see what Alonso can do at Ferrari next year but my money is on Lewis.
