Mercedes have Millions to burn so if Brawn still dont give Jenson what he wants then there is something else going on behind the scenes. Not sure if it has anything to do with his nationality - they surely want a potentially good driver. Is Rosberg or Heidfield/Glock/Sutil really good enough or WDC material?

I agree with you, however, I feel it could be a little shortsighted of Button.

Assuming he couldn't get a salary he wanted, then ok, fair enough, he'll go to another team. And he'll want to get a competitive car, and the other key seats are filled.

However, if he does complete a move to McLaren's camp, he'll be up against a chap that has kind of bulit the team around him...

It's either going to be a complete disaster or a roaring success with no middle ground.

Personally, I hope it happens and can't wait for the next season.

PS - I'm a longterm Button fan...but I do fear that in the same car, Lewis will have the better of him if i'm being honest and taking my fanboy glasses off.

So Brawn has sold out to Merc who may want an all German line up of drivers. If that means Lewis and Button partnership then I can't see this being good for Button. Ok maybe good from a cash point of view but he will be very much number 2 and I fear will be shown up by Lewis.

Mercedes aren't daft, they've realised that Button is, in reality, probably no better than Heidfeld or Rosberg, and that this years championship meant little in terms of driver skill: certainly no grounds for demanding a massive pay rise.

McLaren will no doubt be grateful to have someone better than Kovalhowever you spell it. Button, in theory will be a decent no.2 to Hamilton, and might get a few points towards the Constructors Championship.

But to be fair to Button, he's not asking for loads of cash, just back to where he was with honda, before he took a huge pay cut, and now he is WDC.

Very interesting to see Merc move fully to Ross and co and ditching their stake at Mc, I thought that was set in stone

If Button does go to McLaren he'll have to start shaving again, as they like their drivers to have a very clean cut image.

I thought Cosworth enginges were due to be the engine to have next season, as the 2009 engines moving to 2010 regs will be hampered, whereas the new engines coming in for 2010 will be designed anew..?

Who said anything about 'Chello? The fact he only finished third in the championship in a winning car says it all. IMO there's not much between 'Chello and Button, either of whom could have won the championship with that level of superiority of the car.

Put either in the same car as a Hamilton or a Vettel and you wouldn't see them for dust.

Mercedes-Benz has announced that it has taken over the Brawn Formula 1 team and re-named it Mercedes Grand Prix after buying a 75.1 per cent stake in the squad.

The German car giant will retain its role as McLaren's engine supplier until at least 2015, but will sell its 40 per cent stake in the squad back to the team over the next two years.

"Mercedes will compete in the F1 world championship next year starting with its own factory team," said head of Mercedes cars, Dr Dieter Zetsche.

"This is possible by the agreed acquisition of 75.1 per cent of Brawn GP, 45.1 per cent from Daimler and 30 per cent from our partner Aabar Investments. The rest will be with the current share - Ross Brawn, Nick Fry and other members. The interests of Daimler are aligned therefore it will be a true Mercedes-Benz team.

"Ross Brawn will continue to be the team principal and thereby we are maintaining his strength. Just like the engine team at Mercedes Benz High Performance Engines, the new Mercedes Benz grand prix team will be co-ordinated by Mercedes Benz Motorsport which is as everybody knows headed by Norbert Haug."

Neither driver has yet been announced for the new squad. 2009 Brawn driver Rubens Barrichello has already joined Williams for next season while Jenson Button has yet to decide on his future.
