Glock, the new power-oversteer overtaker (vid)
Discussion
Ever remember Keke Rosberg kicking out the backend when coming out of a corner to get superior acceleration and turn? It almost looks like a bit of a mistake to the uneducated and I thought we'd never see the like of such superb style again...
Until Timo Glock came along! Ok it's not as extreme, mainly due to the F1 cars of today that don't like to slide as much and are probably much more twitchy than the cars Keke drove, but the technique is the same.
During my review of 2009 overtakes, I spotted a few that qualify.

Sorry but I think you're trying to make something out of nothing here, the cars now move around a lot more due to Traction Control being banned. Hardly the resurrection of a fabled and long forgotten racing technique.
I'm not trying to stem your obvious enthusiasm for F1, so well done for taking the time to collate some footage.
I too enjoy capturing power oversteer but I just read it as the driver pushing hard to wring every last 10th out of the car.

That's true, of general oversteer, and LH is probably the most industrious with the rear end, but this is actively using it to OVERTAKE.I'm not trying to stem your obvious enthusiasm for F1, so well done for taking the time to collate some footage.

As I thought the vid explained, this is best (only?) put to use on exiting a corner. I haven't seen LH do this yet in any formula bar karting (and karts don't have the power), so while I'm sure he is capable, it doesn't appear to be in his overtaking arsenal.
Keke Rosberg did the move about 8 times on camera in F1 in total. I saw Mansell do it once. That's about it, of relatively recent history captured on TV.

Here's a great comparison of Hamilton's and Glock's car control: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvU2FtzSEQk&fea...
Lewis was great, drifting it round that corner. How could Timo possibly beat that effort?
He doesn't just beat that effor, he blows it away!

Hmm, sorry, Glock was holding the car on the brakes to do a burnout whereas Hamilton was just doing a drift around the corner at higher speed, I can't say that makes Glock somehow suddenly miles better...
You mean Glock knew how to start one off properly?
lol someone who doesn't understand the entertainment of burn-out's. Smoke my dear boy, smoooke.
