Probably not Silverstone charging directly, just a way to cover the subsidising of free tickets. Something that wasn't said on the stand at the Autosport show at the weekend was the £2.50 (A TICKET!!) booking fee! they have to pay for the GP I suppose
I think it is a great idea. Ok its not totally free (and the parking is a new one) - but lets face it its bloody cheap however you look at it. If a person went on their own in a car it would cost them £8.50. If it was a family of 4: £16.00. Could you do anything else over a weekend for that kind of money?

Hi all, glad to see the ticket offer has picked up so well, we are getting near to running out already!
To answer the query earlier in the thread the ticketing is not the responsibility of Silverstone it is the responsibility of Britcar24hr Ltd. as we own the gate for the weekend, therefore we are charging for the parking to help cover the costs of the administration of Silverstone operating the car parks and gates etc.
The tickets have a £2.50 booking fee for each weekend ticket. Each ticket entitles one person to 3 day weekend access over the duration of the event. Car passes are available for £6 for a normal car and £12 for a large vehicle over 12 seats (this price includes all admin/booking fees for this ticket). Car passes ARE required to park at Silverstone. At the current rate of sales there will be no on the day parking passes available so I urge you to purchase these in advance. To sumarise, to take advantage of the free ticket offer you will need to apply for free tickets for each individual person plus a car pass for each vehicle you will be bringing to the event. The car parks for these tickets will be the closest car parks to the start finish straight we are able to use. If you do not purchase car passes you will not be able to park at Silverstone.
Once the ticket offer has been exhausted tickets will still be available to be purchased from Silverstone directly, ticket prices will still be cheaper than last year but a car park pass must be booked at the time of ticket booking if you are bringing a car. On the day car parking passes will not be available for these tickets.
Spectator tickets will be available to be purchased on the day but these will be more expensive.

A few more Q's
Do you need a car pass to park in ANY carparks ie, the ones outside the main Gate or will these be closed?
Do you need a CarPass if you are camping?
Not that i need any passes as i have a nice(ish)bed in the TopCats truck
Any heads up on the off the track entertainment? Live music stage?
As i have been to all pervious Britcar 24hs, I am Realy looking forward to this event and with a crowd of over 30k it should make it some event.

All cars will need a car pass to park at Silverstone. Once the offer tickets have expired advance tickets will be available from Silverstone and they will also have car passes available. The final details of the on the day prices are being finalised but it looks like the cost of the on the day ticket will include a car pass which will need to be displayed in the car once purchased.
Camping passes will have a separate car pass entitling the holder to take their vehicle to the campsite area within the circuit.
thanks for the upbeat responses. We thought we'd try something differant this year. Hopefully it'll work and we can repeat it or something similar next year. We've already managed to reduce the entry fee significantly this year for commiting early and if we can get a regular large crowd we can use some of the income from that to hopefully help the entry fee's even more which will entice more entries making it a better race and spectacle.
