Afternoon All,

With reports linking Fisi to the second seat at BMW Sauber, is Nick looking at not being in F1, or with a one of new 2nd rate teams?

I have always liked his driving style, and he always is overlooked for drives despite winning the old F3000 series and doing relatively well.

He is up there with the best of the journey-men, which is no bad thing considering its F1. He never had a true crack at it in my opinion.

What do you think people?

He's had 10 seasons, which is more than Anthony Davidson got!

They call him "Fast Nick" for a reason.

He's one of the best and most consistent drivers in F1 IMO, certainly not worthy of being dropped altogether. Bit of a Derek Warwick, respected by many but somehow never getting in the right car at the right time.

I can't for the life of me work out what that reason is. At least if they called him "Quick Nick" it would be because it ryhmes... wink

If I paraphrase that you could be talking about any one of almost hundreds of drivers.

If I was a team boss, I think I'd rather have Heidfeld in my car than Fisi. I'm sure there's more factors to it such as sponsorship/wage demands, but I think Fisi has passed his best.

I thought Fisi was simply going to sit on the bench at Ferrari or have I missed something?

I do like him myself yes, seems like a nice guy. But i think you hit it on the head with 'relatively well' nothing too amazing driving wise...

Fisi is part of the Ferrari engines deal- they, Ferrari, keep him race fit and Sauber get cheaper motors.

I just hope nick gets a decent drive.

He will hopefully end up at Renault (or SaabF1 as it could be called in 2011 if Bernie gets his way!) After all, he kept Kubica honest in 3 years at Sauber, so they'd make a good team at Renault.

He'd be a better bet for helping Renault get back into the top 4 constructors again than the likes of Grosjean

IMO, more than any other driver in the history of F1, Chris Amon and Martin Brundle included, he deserves at least one GP win to his name before bowing out. Nurburgring 2005 and 4 second places in 2008 were his closest calls.

This is the driver who has had a career as team mate to Kimi, Massa, Webber and Kubica. And has come out on top pretty often. In fact, his record against teammates is at least as good as Button's.....

I understand and support your first paragraph - unfortunately last year doesn't in anyway support your 2nd!

Exactly. Apart from not actually beating his teammate to the championship, or even a race win...

If he gets a drive this year it will be for Renault. There are only 5 spots left, Renault, Toro Rosso (will go to Alguersuari), 2 at USF1 (won't go there, they won't be on the grid) and Campos (will go to a Spaniard/South American).

If someone else goes to Renault, expect to see him back at Sauber in 2011 (or midway through 2010) after they realise De La Rosa was a massive mistake.

His problem is simple....bad management from the start of his career until today! I was at McLaren when he tested a car back in 1997 as part of a M-B deal and he shunted the car into the pit lane wall upon leaving the garage....there goes a 10K nosecone. Lots of initial promise but he has just been badly advised and incorrectly motivated by those close to him. A shame.
