Silverstone - new circuit or not?

Press releases last yaer suggested that Silverstone were hoping to have the new cicruit ready for the F1 GP this year. Looking at their ticket site, they are still selling in line with the existing circuit.
Anybody know what the status is with the new circuit?
What happens if I buy in one of the existing grandstands affected by the change if the new track is ready?

Not sure how it has come on now, but early December work was already well underway and they'd proceeded to dig up "the islands" from the south circuit section.
It doesn't look like a complicated build to me.
It'll be a shame to miss out on a full speed bridge, but the modern F1's take this with little effort now, so be good to see them on the new section IMO.
Time will tell, I guess?

Yep, the reason for the change is so that the bikes dont risk hitting the bridge parapits at 200 mph. IIRC the circuit will be able to run in 2 conigurations with o without the extra loop.Anyone know of this?
as I understand it the only casualty in all the work is the international circuit which will no longer be available, but rumour had it the national was being extended and that southern would be available for national racing too
Just noticed, it looks like changes to Club too? Always felt that was a good technical corner (on exit) that provided a difference in speed that could tee-people up for Abbey?
I'm all for changes to Silverstone though. Done nearly every combo of circuit there now and this looks good IMO.

Lose the chicane at Abbey, and keep it a fast left-hander. Then keep going towards Luffield 2 (losing Bridge), and at Luffield 2, engineer a quick left-right before going into Woodcote.

I was wondering when all this expenditure was planned though. It's only just over a month since the GP was confirmed at Silverstone, but it looks like work has been underway for quite sometime. Surely it must take many, many months, if not years, to get contractors quoted and lined up for a project such as this? (I can't get a conservatory built for 6 months!) Did Silverstone have all this planned despite having lost the GP for 17 years?
Something not quite right in the chronological order of things in my mind.

The work was planned when they got the moto GP. It was a requirement of that that they modded the circuit, as bridge was considered to risky for the bikes on full chat. So yes it was all planned and not dependent on getting the f1 GPI was wondering when all this expenditure was planned though. Like was said above, it was being done for the Moto GP riders, not for the F1. Though I'm sure the fact that the F1 may end up back there before the 17 years were up was in the back of their mind when the desigin work was happening.
