F1 Teams agree to points system tweak

The F1 teams have agreed to tweak the new for 2010 points system (25-20-15-10-8-6-5-3-2-1), in order to reward race wins. The gap to second place is increased by two points, with other changes further down the order. The new system is 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1

The intention of this is to encourage overtaking isn't it? Surely it will only reward and encourage consistency as the cost of retiring with nothing is way too high.

probably is to encourage overtaking, but, common sense says, how can a slower car, behind a faster car, overtake? it can't.

I remember Berger taking off a another car through not being aware of what was going on around him. In his explanation afterwards he said something along the lines of: I didn't expect someone to bother about whether they came eighth or ninth. And therein lies the problem with some drivers.

So I suppose having points all the way down so that if you turn up at the circuit you've got some can be seen as good. But most drivers will go for an overtake anyway, won't they? I seem to remember that Hamilton went for third on the last lap in a last gasp pointless overtake. With that sort of competitiveness points are rather pointless.

The only time they will come into play is towards the end of the season when working out where you need to be to win the WDC. I've got the feeling that such calculating goes on nowadays.

Should have made a win 40 points and second 25.

Its a better system the 6-5-3-2 was odd, having one point difference for 6-5 points, then 2 points difference for 5-3 points.

The FIA shouldn't announce the points system till the end of the season that way no one will know if they've done enough to win!

This is a much better scoring system and makes far more sense as the 25-20- system had the same weighting as the old 10-8-6.

I've always thought they should adopt the MotoGP point system, giving points well down the field.

so nobody wants a etutn to the 60s pints system where you drop two scores and only count the best?

Or nascar style, where they get points for arriving at the circuit, points for starting the engine, points for...

(actually, I would like to see an additional point for fastest lap. With no refuelling allowed this year, this might give the slower cars a chance of somehting, if the driver can put together a really good lap)
