I think Stewart would win. I think he has more natural ability, yet Moss is still a driving legend. But anyway, I couldn't get away with Stewart until I was bought his biography. It completely changed my perception of him.Edited by roscozs on Friday 29th January 22:06
In a sports car it would be Moss. He was tremendously fast in any closed wheeler. His performance in the Mille Miglia was the best ever. For F1 cars, I have no idea. JS was class. Real class. Bit of a prig, but a real class one of them as well. I'd put him on level with Senna in sheer natural ability.

The lad was up against Fangio for most of his career, and - after crashing at Goodwood, at the age of 32 - decided (after some "test" drives to see whether his skills were up to the task) that competitive driving was beyond him. A decision like that takes some huge cojones.
And he could drive anything:
500cc JAP Coopers
Jag XK120's
HWM Alta "Offsets"
300 SLR's
Vanwalls

I've met STIRLING Moss and he was totally the opposite.Most awkward time was in the Drivers Mess, go to the toilets which is where the drivers get changed, hadn't been in there before so didn't know exactly where the toilets were. Go round a corner and it turns out i've taken a wrong turn, and theres stirling moss in front of me in nothing more than his underwear... My surprise at bumping into him half naked and confusion at the toilets not being where i thought they were lead to me not averting my gaze quick enough and a very awkward moment of our eyes meeting his as he stood there in nothing more than his pants... 'Sorry Stirling' i muttered and walked off.
...Anyway back to the original post, i guess we will never know, two of our greatest and drivers to be proud of, i think it would come down to car and circuit. Give them both Lotus 18's and Monaco and i can't see beyond Stirling Moss! Much else and i'd probably go for JS.
...Jim Clark would be about a mile down the road in front though...
