or Lotus F1. There's a few other posts with this pic. I like it but suspect it will change with sponsors say so.

Every bit of my car was built by Lotus and some bits were modified by me.... All bodywork is original Lotus with some modifications, the engine is still the same longblock with some mods, the ECU is still OEM with proper tuning.......

My car is a modified "LOTUS" but still very much a Lotus, is any part of this so called Lotus built by Lotus at Lotus ?

Or can anyone with deep pockets just buy racing heritage ?..idea

To answer the question - No, Lotus F1 it an entirely separate team, the only link, albeit a tenuous link, is that Proton , who own Lotus cars are partly Malaysian Government backed as is the "New" Lotus F1 team.

Mind you, if you did your homework you'd know that Team Lotus was a separate company from Lotus cars.

And how much of the mercedes engine is mercedes (made by ilmor) and how much and how much and how much. Why not let's just be happy that there is another new f1 team and be even happier that it has a link, no matter how tenuous to the marque that we love and support. If they do well then let's all enjoy the halo affect but if not, well I'll still be cheering for them and I hope you'll join in.

Ilmor are no more, it's Mercedes High Performance Engines... (and has been for some time now)

Also, although team lotus were a different entity from Lotus cars, they were still part of the Lotus group at the time...

Whilst I understand your logic with regards to illmor it is still very much a similar workforce from what I am led to believe. I may be wrong it's been known before but my sentiment still stands let's get behind this team and break out the flags

you have clearly never been near the place then?

it's HUGE, and they have just finished the new extension (basically doubling their size).

they do a lot more than just the F1 engines....

It's a shame that money can buy everything now and I won't be cheering just a name without any real connection to Lotus Cars...Too bad...as always Lotus has no clue to marketing.

Even though they are not "officially" a works Lotus team, I for one will be supporting them. They're bringing money into the local economy (I only live a few miles from their base at Hingham, Norfolk.
They bring the name Lotus to a whole new audience, which can only be good for Hethel. The Brand will get world wide coverage which raises the image & hopefully will stand in good stead in the sale of new Lotus Cars to the general public.

Yes, I am biased, I supported the original team from when I was a child, watching the comings & goings from Ketteringham Hall, where the old Team Lotus was based. Watching the cars going around the test track at Hethel, watching the procession through the streets of Norwich when Andretti won the world championship in 1978 to fulfilling a childhood dream and working for Lotus cars.

The resurrection of the name in F1 has definatly caused a buzz around work.

The nostalgic side of me loves seeing that car and I really hope that the team remains based in Norfolk with all the benefits that will bring. In 1970 I remember my excitement at seeing a green and yellow car at Brands thinking Lotus had been dropped by Gold Leaf and gone back to their true colours (turned out to be either or a BRM or Brabham) so I think there would be a tear in my eye if these colours made it to the grid.
The realist in me knows that sponsors are needed and the car's eventual colour will be thus determined.
Do I care that its not really Lotus as we know it - well I can see Ronin's point but I'm pleased to see the Lotus name back on the grid and I'm sure there will be benefit for Lotus cars.

Of course they can! But at least there is a link to Lotus via Malaysia and it looks like Group Lotus is backing the team. Why not stop being so negative all the time and give the Lotus boys a break? They get my support, whether the cars are made at Hethel, Ketteringham Hall or wherever.

I was at a open evening 3-4 years ago talking to Nick Adam's, we asked the question whether Lotus would ever return to F1, his response was I doubt it very much unless someone turn's up with deep pockets! All I can say is thank god they have, Lotus seemed to have really turned a corner lately

Anything that helps the brand and build’s new models is fine by me, at the end of the day it gives us something to talk about and drive

Lotus have turned the corner and are now profit making, which must be good for their long term prospects. Steve Sutcliffe of Autocar has an interesting article this week about the new Lotus management. Its worth a read.

Is it black or very dark green?

I will support them and keep my fingers crossed that they have a good stab at it and don't embarrass themselves and the Lotus brand.
