I've been a bit busy in a free weekend and got round to producing an overtake vid.

Sadly due to footage issues of F1 up until 1980-ish, this is only featuring his comeback years...

As regular charger from the back, even in only 3 years, there was plenty of action to fill a 10 min vid.

McLaren charges from the back were a feature of mid 1980s racing - mainly due to the McLarens having rubbish qualifying tyres and good race tyres. John Watson won from 17th on the grid at one race.

^ that was actually from 12th on the grid, not 17th. Promotion due to a restart. But Wattie does hold the 'modern' record of winning from the lowest position - 22nd Long Beach '83

If that's the "modern" record, what is the "historic" record? I can't think of anyone who would have won from lower.

I guess the anorak answer would be from the 50s, when the indy 500 was counted towards points for the F1. Hence someone who scored points technically never entered the race!
