In car Camera set up
Discussion
Hi guys, I'm going on my 2nd nurburgring trip this may and would like to have a camera set up in the car so I can video a few laps. Anyone have any suggestions? So far it looks like I will be using a headrest mount, that is fine, but I'd preferably like something I can use in the future. I will be changing car in the summer and the next car has a complete bucket seat, i.e. no sliding headrests and no gaps for harnesses or anything like that so I would like something I can buy once and keep using on every car I get. but If i have to buy a headrest one this year then something different next year thats the way it will have to be!
You can get mounts that attatch to the inside of your windscreen/side windows etc, they use a large (sometimes 2) sucker. You can use them on the side of helmets or on bodywork.
The problem that you will have is the if the Nurburgring marshalls see that you have a camera, they won't let you out on track.

If you're looking for mounts then B Hague are very good http://www.cameragrip.co.uk/
However trying not to be conspicuous with a tripod suckered to the outside of your car is an issue.
I'd go for something like this, http://www.contour-hd.co.uk/ cheaper better lighter & HD, web friendlier, than a tape based camera on a mount, and less mass, in case it detachs and very discreet, heck, wear a crash helmet (it's how I mount them for karting), and no one would notice, and cheap enough to buy a few and mount them strategically about the the car. I use them all the time, you'd can then use them for any other extreme sport. Better than a go pro in my opinion.

The video VBOX lite, is one of the best solutions I have seen recently.
Comes in a 1 or 2 camera set up, with Sony bullet cams, and a small box inside the car
Also has the added benefits of data logging, GPS track mapping, can be plugged into the ECU for car data, allows you to have a virtual dashboard layed onto the video showing whatever parameters you want.
So quite a bit more than a basic camera set up.
