Looks good. Can you give us an idea of costs?

i.e. Car, tyres, entry fees etc.

Thanks.

There are 3 classes, A, B and C.

Full regs are available here.. http://www.mgmetrocup.co.uk/2010Regulations.pdf

But basically

Class A is a standard MG Metro - running 1A tyres and very limited engine modifications.

Class B is a modified MG Metro on 1B tyres (usually Yoko A048Rs) or a pretty standard Rover Metro GTI on 1A tyres (Usually Yoko A539s). You can also run a standard MG Metro Turbo in this class.. but no-one does.

Class C is for Highly modified MG Metros - upto 1380. Modified MG Metro Turbos or Modified Rover Metro GTIs. You can run 1B tyres in class C as well as a LSD.

Cost wise - depending on what class you enter.. anywhere from 800 - 1000 for a class A car, 1000 - 2000 for a Class B or 3000 - 5000 for front running class C car.

Some for sale here

http://www.mgmetrocup.co.uk/html/for_sale_-_wanted...

Races are approximately 200 - 300 depending if they are a double header or not. Silverstone this year is 350 for the double header - but it is going to be the full GP track...

You can usually do a season on a set of tyres. Races are mostly 15 - 20 minutes with 15 - 20 qualifying.

My mate races in this - Jon Flanigan - lovely bloke, great racer.

I know Jon well... Ive been a passenger in his Metro at Castle Combe.....

The MG Metro cup cars would also be ideally suited for the CSCC Tin Tops (for non turbo cars) and the Future Classics series' (for both n/a & turbo cars). Both series offer 40 minute races with a compulsory pit stop for one or two drivers. 2 drivers can share a car & share costs or 2 cars can race in a relay format.

Its great value racing if you want extra races or to investigate a longer race format. The CSCC also has races abroad at Spa (a 1 our race) and (for Pre 1981 cars) a 300km race at the Nurburgring.

Membership is £35, car reg is £90 & entries for the 30 min practice & 40 min race formats are between £250 at Anglesey & £315 (ish) at the MSV circuits.

The CSCC also offers a 15 or 20 minute saloon vs saloon scratch race at the end of each race day with an entry fee f approx £100 for those that have already raced earlier in the day.

Loads of tack time for your money & the pit stop races are great fun.

I used to own a road-going one with all the Cup gear. Spent a fortune on it. (Youth eh??)

Anyway, sounds an absolutely brilliant series.

My only concern is, aren't MG Metro's etc getting rather rare these days? Where can you find a car (with the spares) to compete with?

There are a couple for sale here.. with a load of spares.

http://www.mgmetrocup.co.uk/html/for_sale_-_wanted...

The engines in the MGs are 1275 a series engines - and obviously share parts with minis - so there are plenty around.

Most parts are available from ebay and places like minispares.

The metro GTIs dont struggle for parts either.

I bought my car last May - and already I have 3 engines and 2 gearboxes. I bought a whole MG Metro off ebay for £92.. great for spares smile

There is some footage of the racing on You Tube - just search for 'mg metro cup'

Or - come to one of the races and see for yourself..

Cheers

Del

Thanks Del,

Sounds a great series. Those Metro's are fantastic little go-karts and I remember how simple (if bleedin heavy) my old engine was.

I'm definitely gonna come down to a race and check it out.

Let's see if it can beat its lap record ;-)

I'll be there on the Friday if anyone's testing? I can't make the Metro race on Sunday though I'm afraid.
