I caught up on some coverage of the Bathurst race this morning. last time I saw the race a year or 2 ago the the cars seemed to be fire spitting, barely controllable monsters. Yesterday's cars were completley different. There was even a Diesel powered Alfa farting around at the back.
Was this an entirely different race to the one I remember or have the Aussies gone a bit "ghey" and started allowing cars with less then 8 cylinders to race?

The V8 Supercars race is the Bathurst 1000, 1000km race usually completed in about 6 1/2 hrs (161 laps).

Indeed, but wasn't the 12 hour race the one that not long ago was being contested by V8 powered Monaros???

It may have been, but monaros have been out of production for a couple of years now so the people running Holdens were running the current generation sedan based V8 cars, which are pretty much the same anyway. it was won outright by a BMW 335i from class B this year.

I watched it and found it to be more interesting than the V8 supercars, especially in the awful conditions.

Motors (Sky 413) show the whole thing live with repeats in the week following.

It's not like it was in the 80s & 90s as it's a round of their supercar championships so it's all Ford Falcons and Holden Commodores. Still a good fun six hours or so.
