The Official Chinese GP 2010 Thread***SPOILERS***

The Chinese GP threatens to be a boring race at a Tilke circuit, designed more around the shape of a Chinese symbol than around shapes conducive to good racing.
Extreme weather has hit the race and practice sessions before, so hopefully there could be some precipitation to spice things up.
Red Bull scored their first win here last year and made it a 1-2, on current form they have to be considered very strong for pole and the win.
Ferrari have won here within the last 3 races, but they had transmission woes with Alonso's car in Malaysia and strong rumours that Massa's engine had died by the end (to make it two as Alonso's engine cried enough after getting forced up to jet engine rpms)
If the race is wet, I would expect McLaren to be strong, but in the dry I think they are joint 2nd fastest with Ferrari and Mercedes.
Will we see Schumacher outqualify Rosberg for the first time since his comeback?
Robert Kubica has been outperforming the Renault car for the last two GPs, Petrov showed some pace and some "Va-Va-Voom" (sorry
) in Malaysia, hopefully they will both perform well again.
Williams seem to have a very strong wet weather car, so will be hoping for rain. Will they have worked out what went wrong with Barrichello's car at the start in Malaysia?
Sauber need some luck. (And sponsers)
Toro Rosso punched well above their weight in Malaysia with a fine drive from Alguesari and Buemi looking "racey".
Force India have been getting stronger since the mid point of last season. Getting both cars into Q3 was a great achievement, and Sutil, especially, was brilliant. His defensive driving against Hamilton was top notch too.
Recent Autosport articles have suggested that the HRT team have serious issues with team structure and the design of the car. They seem to have some reliability now and Chandhock has been (surprisingly) outperforming Senna. Will Senna get the upper hand in China.
Virgin have some reliability issues that need sorting before they can get both drivers up to the front of the new teams battle.
Lotus, also, have reliability issues to be overcome. It is nice to see them being so open about their developments. It makes a nice change in F1.
So, no excuses for not trying some "local" cuisine.
I shall have 59 and 130
and the wife will have 64 and share my 130.
Bonus points for guessing correctly what that is.

Plus one boring race except for some pitstops shennighans between the Mclarens and Ferraris. Wet race and it's anyones guess but I'll take a pop at Herr Schumacher.

Well, I called it right (winner-wise) for Sepang so - again with more luck than judgement:

For no other reasons than Rosberg is due a win, the McLarens have that faff duct thing that makes them faster on the straights, Hamilton has bad memories of the place, and Rosberg is due for a win......thereyougo. As scientific as that

How significant were the Ferrari engine failures for FA + (both?) Saubers in Sepang? I hope it's sorted so Alonso is able to take the fight to Red Bull with the McMercs.

Not at all. Autosport will start running articles very soon about the Chinese race, this would be the appropriate place to discuss them. Otherwise the General Motorsport front page gets cluttered with lots of threads which have a natural home here. I don't think there is any "points" to be had from starting the GP threads.TBH I think that the Malaysian thread has run it's course and I would like there to be somewhere to chat about F1 without wading through loads of threads, only for them to all eventually be a Hamilton love in vs a Hamilton hate-fest.
No hidden agenda, I just enjoy decent banter and discussion.
Hmmm, I have a different view. I reckon the race threads should be for the race itself and the build up close beforehand. If there are any general issues relating to F1 then they need their own threads - as the topics discussed may go on for a long time when discussing development issues for example. These should not get lost in a race thread.
Also it helps the search function if in future one wished to refer to a certain issue - then it is in its own thread. Still, no-one is going to stop you starting a new 'Official' thread 5 minutes after the previous race ends.

What with the accidents that we have had this year (thankfully none have meant any injuries) do you think that these could have been avoided if there had been more winter testing? I am thinking of Vettel's brake failure, Schumachers rear left wheel, Kobayshi's front wing. These are not the usual engine/hydraulic/gearbox problems that we have seen in previous seasons. I worry that one of these days (probably at the start of the season) we are going to have an accident caused by a car's failure that could have been sorted had there been more testing allowance.
So after 3 races this season it hasn't gone the way I think most people had suspected in the battle of the teammates. Nico has beaten MS (even if MS has had reliability issues), Massa hasn't been at all out classed by Alonso and Button and LH have shown 2 very different approaches to running a GP with one being more exciting to watch than the other but so far no more succesful....
