I do, she shouldn't have been allowed to wear loose clothing as part of health and safety, so both the fault of PC bullst as they were probably worried to say anything and her own fault for wearing that on a kart.

This nearly happened to a guy doing the Teesside 24hr race last year. He was wearing a scarf under his suit (cold early hours), and the end of it worked loose and onto the back axle.

Went to hospital in a neck brace.

how hard is it to say "all loose clothing must be tucked in whilst racing" and checking this at the point where people get into karts... if it is explained in a sensible and polite way and the person is aware that its a safety issue i cant believe that anyone would take offence.

FFS when you get in a kart (in this country at least) you are explicitly told not to have any trailing external clothing, or hair, outside you overalls for a reason...

Do doubt if they her told her to remove the Burka the religious intolerance PC card would've been played.

Besides which "motor racing is dangerous". Zero sympathy, except for the owners of the circuit. Darwinism and all that.

It's a fake story - simply don't believe it. There's loads of Aussie emails going around with this kind of stuff at the moment.

Shock horror that the sun publish something that's not true !

Well that's not what Mark Webber thinks......!

I've heard the land of Oz is worse than the UK these days for H&S bks.

This case is just plain stupid though.

Death by stupidity... there's no law against it. The way I see it there are two options:

1) tell her what the dangers are and if she wants to put herself at risk for the sake of her religion then that's her choice.

2) Tell her she either takes it off or she doesn't drive as the circuit owners refuse to endure the cost and inconvenience of damages and downtime incurred by her self asphyxiating on their property.

Personally I don't think it should have anything to do with health and safety or PC wording. If she wants to drive a kart but cannot remove her headdress because of her religeous beliefs, and if the risks have been explained to her but she wants to go ahead anyway, who am I do deny her some fun on the way to her impending gruesome death?

A simple Google will trace the story back to Newcastle, NSW, 7th April.

Religion - jesus, just winds me up. Any sane person knows there is no God!

well the news item has already been changed to a head dress not a burka. So the story isn't exactly true - but point taken.

I've seen loads of BS muslim related Oz stories recently

I will have a word with him and tell him to stop winding you up. All part of the service.

By the way, see you soon, next Tuesday ok?

Yes, because only god botherers wear loose clothing. Like the near identical case on the Grand National rollercoaster at Blackpool a few years back. Although that was a sari. Which means she was probably Indian. Which just goes to show blahblahblah... (contd. p94)

Surely a nominee for the darwin awards.

A burka is not part of Islam itself (so I have been informed).

She could have put her helmet on over her head scarf surely? Snot like it was a monster big turban.
