Does anyone know if the FIA GT1 World Championship is going to be shown on TV?

This press release from 3rd March 2010 indicates that it might be:
“And through partnerships like the relationship with Bloomberg TV which we are also announcing today, which takes us into 220 million homes around the world, we will take GT racing to a truly global and diverse audience.”

Thanks
James

SRO and their media agency are trying to secure a broadcast deal but I believe that they want too much money. Something will be struck but unlikely before this weekends event.

It is on the web though....GT1world.com I think.

Being shown on ESPN in totality (2 x 90 min progs), possibly "inherited" when they took over Setanta, and an hours worth of highlights on Sky 4 next Tuesday at 1300hrs plus I suspect a couple of repeats. Hope this helps.

Hi Broady88,

Thanks for the update, I'll try to catch the highlights next week. For anyone else looking for the highlights thats Sky Sports 4 (sky channel 404).

They really should be doing a better job of promoting the tv coverage on the series website.

Thanks
James

Nice to see online coverage with no subscriptions. Been getting into GT racing again of late, so nice to be able to follow it online. Added the Twitter feed to Pidgin notification as well, so no excuse for missing the race now smile

Is that the standard bodywork on the Nissan GTR's and the Ford GTs. The Ford looks much wider than the road going version

Not bad for a first race. Good racing between the Lambo and Ford at the start, and also the Nissan battle towards the end.

Website streaming and live timing were very good compared to lots of others. Now all I need to do is find a decent feed for the ALMS later tonight.

How great was that for a first meet of a new series. I think this will really take off.
Possibly a stupid question but what engine is in the GTR? Does the road going version have a six?
Just wondering as on the coverage they were talking about the different engines saying some have 8's and some have 12's.
The website doesn't specify.
Cheers

To answer the question above, the Nissan has a V8, but the road version has a V6. They have taken advantage of a rule which allows mass-produced sports cars (which apparently the Nissan is) to change engine layouts.

......because turbo's are not allowed in Gt1.

In this months Evo magazine they have a feature all about the GT1 GTR and the engine it has and Sumo power who will be running one in the series.

I am trying to get Roger Green to put the Ford GT into Evo, a better car, more likely to win races and more interesting. The Nissan is more a silouette racer than a true road car, 2 wheel drive, totally different engine, no electronics and not great on track....yet.

It's tarmac until where the car disappears from view, then it consists of a multiple layered barrier (can't remember which type).
