Fernando Alonso

I am surprised that there has not been much comment about Fernando Alonso barging his team mate out of the way on the entrance into the pit lane at China today.

It was a very aggressive move on his team mate, suggesting that it was all about asserting his role as the top dog in the team.

It occurs to me also that the FIA should take a look at this - if Alonso can get away with it, what's to stop any driver when trying to get the jump on someone at a pit stop, doing the same?

I willingly admit to the personal view that Alonso is a jumped up, self-important, toxic, lying little Iberian toe-rag, so I guess I should not be surprised. Still, it is something I've not seen before. For sure.

After all the pit lane shenanigins today , expect some rulings on future behaviour.

Alonso was probably just sick of the thought of getting stuck behind Massa for another race .

It was a bit out of order but Alonso has a championship to compete in and was racing.

BTW, I'm not a massive Alonso fan but recognise him as one of the best racers in F1

Yes.

But it should'nt count when Lewis does it because I like him.

Opinions aside, I've never seen this happen before. It will end in tears if someone does'nt clarify what can be done.

I thought Alonso's move was dangerous. Ban him for the season, I say.

Not quite true - Alonso actually overtook in the pit entry, Lewis didn't.

I was wondering whether the team would have been astute enough to change sets and put the right set of tyres on the car. Clearly they spotted the change of order and put the right tyres on the right car!

Not that it would have mattered to the driver but it might have been against the rules because of the tyre allocation regulations.

Hmm okay but its not as clear as Alonso - he was clearly behind and pushed Massa aside, Lewis was in front of Vettel up to the pit entry and then alongside until the corner.

I don't know, but either way it was exactly the same move, only difference being Vettel gave up the fight earlier than Massa.

I queried this in the main China GP thread, surely expecting Massa in first his mechanics and tyres would be waiting!

Unless the mechanics 'knew' Fred would be in first?

Maybe i've got this wrong but aren't they supposed to be racing?? Nothing wrong with Alonso, Hamilton or Vettels moves in the pit lane today.

What makes Alonso come across like a little st is he cut up his team mate, Hamilton cut up a rival driver and team. Ferrari should be pissed at Alonso for putting both cars at risk, if Massa had not gone on the grass and held his line Ferrari could have finished with 2 broken cars in the pit lane entry. Hamilton was cheeky with Vettel but I doubt he would have done that to Button.

It was a little naughty but as said - I'd of done the same.

Massa has been considerably slower than Alonso this season. Alonso no doubt wasn't prepared to spend another race sat-behind him and took the oppertunity.

I don't think Hamilton would have done it to Button, because of the respect he has for the team who has given him everything. For Alonso, I guess he has a less personal relationship with the team and will try to win at all costs.

The sooner he gets ahead of Massa in the championship, the sooner he will be able to start being more vocal about getting Massa to move over for him to avoid such risks.

In terms of the pit lane issues, does anyone know what the rules actually are? Where does the pit lane entry start (I mean, you have the line at which the limiter has to be on, so IS that where the racing stops?)?

The way it is going this season we are going to see at least one mechanic killed in the pitlane.

Doesn't matter. AFAIK you can still overtake in the pitlane and it is still considered part of the racetrack.
