First practice.. I went up to the mini Karussel, it was wet and misty.

Harris' car- the standard 997 GT3 RS.2 was out

Note Rohrl is no longer driving it due to back injury.

As Normal at the Ring, there's a mixture of cars... from old mantas.. to new R8 LMS

The BMW M3 GT2-S is predicted to be on pole by some in the know

but to do so amongst others, they will need to see off this car.. the big Manthey GT3-R

the new LFA's sounded quite nice, and seemed quick

Night qualifying is in 90 minutes...

Looking at Harris' twitter feed, one of his co-drivers drove the car in from the factory like they used to do at Le Mans back in the day.

The local police are very understanding, but they do require that the car be on wets and be followed by a road-legal vehicle with a flashing yellow light on its roof.

Sure - Can you email me your request please (andy@bash.sh) - i.e. an idea of what kind of shot you're after.

Night qualifying...

it was pretty wet and miserable

Manthey's GT3-R harassing Sean Paul Breslin's Audi R8 LMS

Audi R8 barrelling into Pflanzgarten

The rain turned into mist... and then fog... and the qualifying was ended 1 hour early

This gave me an opportunity to have a bit of a browse around the pits

VW were working on their sciroccos

and Phoenix racing were doing work on one of thier R8s, too

Break down of night qualifying:

P1 Car 43 - the Farnbacher Ferrari F430 GTC 9.20.552
P2 Car 9 - Porsche Team Manthey GT3-R Hybrid 9.26.421
P3 Car 12 Mamerow Racing GT3-R 9.35.280
P4 Car 26 BMW M3 GT2-S 9.37.984
P5 Car 100 Team ABT Sportsline Audi R8 LMS 9.38.334
P6 Car 1 Manthey Racing GT3-R 9.38.502
P7 Car 2 Team ABT Sportsline Audi R8 LMS 9.39.743
P8 Car 41 Gazoo Racing Lexus LFS 9.40.191
P9 Car 98 Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS 9.40.981
P10 Car 22 Vulkan Racing Dodge Viper 9.45.496

Great! Thanks for posting.
A real pity about the weather, and it doesn't look good for qualifying this afternoon.
The good news is the weather is set to improve for Saturday and Sunday

Yesterday evening's Radio Le Mans commentary/discussion was excellent, shame I'll miss this afternoon's session due to work.

cheers... actually I'm not convinced about it being so bad this afternoon - the wind is getting up - flags are blowing around in the paddock, and these will help.

remember to never trust the weather forecast here smile

2nd qualifying was today, this time in daylight, and in the dry...

Manthey's GT3-R came out, did a lap.. 8:30.. went back into the pits, and didn't come out again...
This was provisional pole for most of the session, but then the Audi's stepped up the pace...

as such, this chap was on pole - car 100driven by mattias ekstrome, oliver jarvis, timo scheider, and marco werner...

This car was in second

with this one in third.

Spot anything in common? yes they're all audis - the top 4 all were.. just one BMW snuck into the top 10 - car 25 qualified eigth

the first Porsche was the Haribo/Manthey one, piloted amongst others by westbrook, which qualified 5th, then the mamerow gt3-r in 6th with the manthey car right behind it in 7th.

they hybrid gt3-r then qualified 9th

with a GT3 Cup S behind that in 10th...

will post more shots up once i've slept... knackered!!

and yes I've shots of more than just the lead cars smile

the 24 hour isn't just about the winners... its all the independents

This E36 was pretty committed...

and from metzgefeld, down to breidscheid you have to be very brave, or committed... to warrant passing a clio cup.. they fly down there.

there were also plenty of E46 M3s flying around...

and some independent takes on the E92 M3 asides from the works entry.
