I know he's not completely to blame but Bernie Ecclestone surely should have stumped up the money to get it done....

Yes its a mess, but that he repair is straightforward. Add lots of turf and it'll look exactly as before (ie not that polished!)

Looking at the surroundings, namely the trees, the video looks at least a month old.
Hasn't there been news since about it re-opening in mid-August?

It looks extra depressing because it's wet and grey.

If the sun was shining and there were a few workers doing some work in between brew breaks, it wouldn't look so bad.

Fear not - I reckon it'll be back to good health in the not too distant.

I remember the local TV and press going on about all the jobs it would create, yet nothing about how many it's actually cost the region.

Understand and couldn't agree more but the thread was started about take a look at Donington as it is now, everyone's posts were all down in the mouth but the reality is that the future (for the circuit at least) is far more promising than when the video was made.

Gilletts actions / failings have been well documented and dragged / kicked around (mainly vigorously)in the other forums on here and elsewhere so the reason i posted in the vein i did is that i think it would be a shame if this thread went the same negative way instead of being used as a positive platform to discuss and support the work that Kevin Wheatcroft is now doing to ensure a "Gillett free" future for the circuit.

Just to correct the OP, that is not how Donington looks now.

The main tunnel has been drained and work is going on in the infield to re-profile the grass and banks. Sections of the track that had been dug up are now being resurfaced and work around the track continues a pace.

I don't know when that video was taken but it wasn't recently.

Good to know that they've started work already. Do you know what their plans are, reinstatement wise ? Are they going to put the spitfire or Dunlop bridge back (or maybe a new version of it .. I'd heard (unsubstantiated) that the old bridge was too knackered to be reassemble-able ?) Also, I think the infield 4x4 track was ripped out, are they going to put that back too ? (or not bother)

I think they were plannig to keep the fascia panels so they could be re-used with a new frame.

Do we know how much demition occurred? I can see the exhibition centre is still there from the video but I looked at a fair bit that was to go -(Hollywood suites?) etc.
