BNG/Backhome revisited 1/4 Mile Sprint on the Prom
Discussion
As the title suggests we're now accepting entries for the 1/4 mile timed Sprint that will take place on Sunday 5th September on the lower promanade.
This is a fully sanctioned MSA event run by Longton and District Motor Club.
We're hoping for a good turnout from you guys to put on a really good show, so bring your race car, road car or even both.
Depending on the number of entries we're hoping to give everyone at least 2 practice runs and three timed runs. Timing will show elapsed time and terminal speed.
Also every entry will receive a limited edition 'Ned the Dog' T shirt....

So here's your chance to show your car off to a wider audience and lay some rubber down in your car's hometown.
Any questions please mail me but the entry form should be self-explanatory.
The entry form and regulations can be downloaded from the link below.

Whats the deal with numbers? I would love to attend this with my Tuscan Challenge car, but its currently still in bits so I don't want to sign up and pay until I'm sure it'll be running by then... Hopefully it'll be ready in plenty of time for September but you never know what fun these things can throw up!

Sorry not sure what you mean by numbers? If you mean entries then we're not expecting to have to close teh entry unless we're overwhelmed. You can always enter your Tuscan and if it's not ready run your road TVR instead?
Save me googling, but is the licence required for this just a fill-in-the-form job, or does it entail doctor's certificates etc? Would be interested in giving it a go, but no time to jump through hoops to get a licence.
Also, what class would a chevy-powered [retired] Tuscan challenge car be in? It's road legal, and has tax and insurance, and in it's present guise with the 'road-legal gear' would not actually be eligble to race in the challenge so it's not really a 'competition car' now. But then neither was a chevy-powered TVR a production car either? So, what would it run as?
Thanks

If you download the form all the details are on there but with regards to the licence it's a simple fill in the form and supply doctor's details. Also, what class would a chevy-powered [retired] Tuscan challenge car be in? If it's road legal the car will be in Class 11 - non standard engines or I imagine as a race car originally it might be accepted into class 12B Competition cars over 3000cc.
As an aside I thought it would be eligible to run in the challenge in the invitation class?

I think by this he means it's not got a valid cage, fire system, cut outs, harness, steering lock etcCurrently I don't think we would turn down any TVR's no matter what spec, as long as they pass the Blue book reg for racing.

But the idea of running it down the prom does sound appealing, even if I don't see me running the Challenge in it.
unless there was a round at Knockhill maybe

Races are only 20 mins so can't see you filling the catch tank.

Class 11 would be a reasonable guess? Also, what class would a chevy-powered [retired] Tuscan challenge car be in? A little while ago Dave Chant asked a number of questions about the Blackpool Sprint in September The answers took a bit of digging out but here they are.
Are log books required for the sprint for non road cars eg race cars?
The answer is YES. The MSA require them for hillclimbs and sprints but
not for racing! Strange but true! A log book can be provided by any Scruitineer it can even be done on the day. There is a charge of about £6. the owner needs to provide a photo of the vehicle taken from the front quarter showing the profile of the vehicle. The scruitineer will then add things like chassis and engine number etc.
Are timinging blades required?
If they are not fitted accurate times can't beguaranteed, with a blade they will be within 100th of a second. The blades can be made from folded aluminium, painted matt black and secured by Number plate bolts and tape. You dont need to drill holes or damage the paintwork!
Will scruitineers request the removal of bonnets on Tuscan road cars
which is a two man job requiring removal of bolts etc.?
No they will not ask for this
In summarry for road going vehicles all they need is MOT, Road Tax and
Insurance and a timing blade if they want accurate times.
All entrants will need Helmets, Overalls and gloves. A name of a company that does them all at a great price is http://www.nfr-racewear.co.uk. Tel 01617234012
