Vettel Vs Webber

So the Red Bull seems to be the car to beat this season, especially through the twisty stuff! I for one have been impressed with Webbers ability to fight this season but who do we think will prosper in this team and why? Is this Webbers best chance in his career or is this the start of a baby schumi dominence? Personaly i'm a Ham fan but respect all other drivers on the grid!

I wouldn't say I'm a "fan" of either driver to be honest, I do however think that Mark has been far exceeding my expectations of him both this year and last - IMO he'll never be a "great" though as although he can string together a stunning lap in clear air when he is in the pack I think his racecraft lets him down. Vettel clearly has an abundance of talent but he (again IMO) lacks the maturity he needs to be one of the best, Lewis is showing this season that he has matured considerably and lost none of his speed so if Vettel can do the same then there is no reason he can't have a very successful time in F1.

i would tend to agree here. although with the slight difference of opinion with regards webber. I think he has/is being dealt a slightly lesser hand than Seb. He has been wonderfully consistent and you cant knock his consecutive pole positions. I also think he is one of, if not the most rounded and grounded F1 drivers on the grid, and a great sportsman.

Vettel hasnt been his usual happy smiley self as much this season. I still rate him as a driver but see webber as having the edge slightly. Neither are on a par with Lewis though and its no secret that i hold Jenson in very high regard

The irony of your title is that it could well be the whole "vettel vs webber" that hands red bull's season to mclaren who are very much "Hamilton & Button".....slight difference in phrase. Big difference in reality...

Plus, Vettel's showing a tendency this year to intimidate other drivers (unnecessary jink towards Hamilton? in the pitlane for one, and his trying to force Webber aside in Turkey.

Both clumsy at best, reckless in my eyes, and is making me look on him even more as a mini-Shumey as time passes.

Pressure showing? Victim of his own hype? Following Schumacher's lead by taking no prisoners (but not pulling it off against more quality opposition)?

Dunno but I think mentally Webber is miles stronger now, and seems to have upped his pace this season too.

All that remains is that they have parity of machinery, support and strategy for the rest of the season.

Unfortunately as long as Helmut Marko is advising the team, I think that last is a long shot.

other than Jenson / Lewis winning the WDC, Webber comes a close second to who I would love to see clinch the title. Interesting you should mention le mans; i was watching in amazement again at his double crash in the merc back in, i think, '99 was it?? that and the nasty smash to his leg a couple of years back show that (of course; he is a racing driver afterall!) he is made of stern stuff.

I gave this year to Vettel before the season started, but the more it has gone on, the better Webber seems to be driving. It seems to be a great battle though. Vettel certainly started off better with what we can call 2 winning performances had it not been for poor reliability but Webber is the one driving better at the moment. IIRC Webber has outqualified Vettel more times and has more points. And all this when alot of people have a strong feeling Red Bull are against Webber beating Vettel.

I still maintain that Vettel is great from the front but he doesn't have the skill or the mentality to come from behind. He is a sulker and does not seem to know how to overtake. Webber is a great personality though and I am very pleased to see him doing well.

and that is what really takes the shine off Vettel for me. I don't mind agressive driving and if you cock it up, you cock it up. It happens. However, Vettel's starting to show a bit of 'the grid owes' attitude and that's not appealing to me.

Webber is a bit grumpy but he seems to be putting his heart and soul into this year and that is an appealing aspect in a driver.
