Silverstone circuit developments

We all know that Silverstone is getting some big changes to layout and facilities over the next couple of years with the New Arena layout being the most recent. I've found this really interesting blog post that shows how the circuit has changed since 1948. Enjoy! http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=4014

Nice find, my first visit was in '90 (the last year of the really quick/simple track)

Shame to loose Bridge, was an awesome sight seeing F1 car turn in flat out and just change direction at that speed and the sound boucing off the bridge and grandstands.

The loss of Bridge is a great shame. I'm also wondering whether the impression of speed down the pit straight will have been lessened for drivers and fans (I've not been either at Silverstone this year!), due to the moving back of the grandstands.

Bit by Anthony Davidson in latest MotorSport mag about Silverstone where he states that Bridge is no great shakes in a F1 car and easily taken flat. Always looks a lot harder from a spectators point of view.....

Like you I will miss bridge (but at least it's still there to be used for Club meets etc).

that said, F1 has been flat though there for some time now, it's not the challenge it used to be...

Maybe not in other series though, and even if it's flat it's still a corner with a line to take in order to make it flat so complicates overtaking and the entry to Priory. It was a lovely dramatic entry to the stadium section too - akin to the cars bursting out of the woods at Brands GP.

to be fair, it's not really been a big challenge since Abbey Chicane was put in, if you ever do the historic GP cct, then it becomes very interesting in anything with some power
