Tips Needed - British F1 Virgin

Ok guys and girls the time is nearly here. This will be my first ever Grand Prix and I am so excitied.
As a newbie any tips will be welcomed from you seasoned pro's, anything from like where to watch the race as I have the cheap no grandstand ticket, to, what to do inbetween races and what to bring with me. I will be camping but havent booked anywhere so will be just rocking up, so any camping tips we be welcomed as well.
Leave it all up to you to give me some help and tips!

bring a fold-up chair. Everyone has them, and oddly this makes everyone sit in almost rows.
Dont, please dont stand up for the race. You found the seat and thought "ah good. I can see the track from here". But then when the race starts you suand up. Which means the person behind you cannot see. So they stand up. And the person behind them...and....
Its really annoying
Anyhow, bring wat you want. beer/food etc. Its all allowed- like any event, the food and drink is expensive, so we bring our own.
As for where to watch, the earlier you get there, the better the spot you can nab. We got there at 7h30, it was busy even then, but we got a good spot then dozed in the sunshine. It can be cold then, so bring a blanket etc
We watched from the straight between stowe and vale. You get some good overtaking into Stowe, and you can watch them for about 10 seconds- quite a lot in silverstone terms! There was also a big screen at Stowe, so you could watch this
bring a radio and good headphones- There is a tannoy system, but you wont hear it during the race.
Stay for the support races. usually good, but will seem VERY slow compared to f1 cars
buy lots of tat. Go for one of the obscure teams, so poeple on the igh street will wonder why your t-shirt has HRT on it, for example. Most of these will be behind the main grandstands- a long walk from stowe
Walk the track if you are doing friday- its not that busy, and the grandstabnds are open to anyone. In fact, buy the tat on friday

When I say really good I mean everything from a packet of sweets to Scalextric sets and overalls, models, visors and team caps signed by F1 drivers.

There are no electric hook-ups and the bogs can get a bit messy. I find it survivable though and it is right next to the track. It can get a bit noisy but that doesn't bother me.
I like watching from club - you can see most of Vale, the chicane, cars accelerating through club and up to Abbey. Last time I was there was the World Series by Renault; unfortunately they have put more grandstands up so the best spot has gone.
I take a 12V electric cooler box and a car battery. We leave it running overnight and unplug it in the morning. I also have a lightweight folding sack trolley which makes carrying it pretty easy.
Make sure you are up very early on Sunday if you want the best spot at the track. Friday can get busy too. Make sure you take the sun cream.

During qualifying, try and watch at least some of it from Becketts/Maggotts. Watching an F1 car into the and the change of direction is unreal!
Apart from that, just enjoy the atmosphere, you can see more than you used to be able to on big screens in most places. Take a radio to listen to the commentary or Five Live. Oh, and take lots of money for food and drink!

Make sure you take plenty of suncream as i burnt badly last year even tho it was cloudy and quite cool most of the time. You won't even realise your burning.
Take as much food and drink as you can, it can be expensive over the whole weekend.
Take an umbrella you never know what the british weather will do.

Seat is designated on sunday only. As you've got gold tickets you can sit in any grandstand you like on friday and saturday. So have a walk about. I've got tickets for becketts but clubs a great place to watch also. Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
