go on enlighten me If you're in the infield just go and hang around the end of the F1 Paddock in the morning and wait for them to come in the gated area, there were plenty of them walking through. Or, stand the far end (pit lane exit) of the paddock and just keep an eye out. I was stood there last year on Sunday morning and Nico Rosberg just walked out and stood next to me watching one of the support races for about 5 mins. No one batted and eye-lid, I don't think anyone really knew who he was!

..or Brands. In one of the shops, there's a huge photo of the start of the GP in '83 (i think). I'm on the pit wall having blagged my way in pretending I was a photographer! We were wandering along the back of the paddock when they opened the access gates to let the GP2 cars back into their paddock area. One of the (lady) marshals was having a bit of trouble trying to push a car and hold the gate open so being the gent, I held the gate. She thanked me and then shut the gate but with me now the other side - inside the F1 paddock!!

Trouble was, my lad, then 8, was still on the outside starting to look rather woeful in a quivering-bottom-lip-sort of way at his dad the other side of the fence.

I know it must have been a hard decision to make...do tell us about the fun you had in the paddock though!F1 drivers are NOT encouraged at GP's to get close to the fans....it is all about TV and then the corporate guests who bank roll the whole show. Unfortunately bernie still doesn't understand what PR is all about and unlike NASCAR / BTCC / WRC / BSB etc the drivers do not have an open pit lane when the fans can mix and get photos.
It is a shame for all of those who wish to meet the drivers and their heroes, but until the teams really grasp the role of the fans to the sport and not the role of sponsors F1 will leave its fans somewhat out of pocket.
At Silverstone there is little chance of getting an autograph unless there very early in the morning at the electronic gates....ie before 7.30am or at the latter part of the day when the divers leave!! These are located at the Paddock entrance by the Silverstone shop.

rather than try early, you best bet is to wait until the very end of the day and hang around the paddock exits. most drivers will not appear in the morning and will have other things on their mind so the evening is the best time to approach them.
had a friend who stayed very late on the saturday and walked around the circuit on the track and bumped into jacques villeneuve who was cycling around with some williams team bods.

I agree with that. Saturday has always worked well for me....also some of the ex drivers can be grabbed as they wander from Paddock to BRDC centre too....had a friend who stayed very late on the saturday and walked around the circuit on the track and bumped into jacques villeneuve who was cycling around with some williams team bods.
