It took pole at the 'Ring 24 hours earlier this year and was leading for a large part of the race I think.

It did lead a large part of the race, but it wasnt anywhere near pole (qualified 9th I think)

indeed Audi locked out 1,2,3,4 on the grid, with their R8 LMS.

Didn't matter, by the end of lap 1, Marcel Tiemann in the green + yellow Manthey Porsche was well out in front... and they'd have won if it wasn't for an out of control GolfIII GTI frown

Hybrid would have been a good winner, but engine gave out 90 minutes from the end... which left BMW to win, Ferrari with Farnbacher to come 2nd, and Audi to pick up a podium after all.

Brilliant race!

Shame the hybrid isn't racing at the Spa 24hrs next week - am heading out for that, and can't wait!

The hybrid bit is by Williams.

Nico Hulkenburg has tested the 911 around the big 'ring.

Well, part of the hybrid system is designed by Williams

"One of the components of the hybrid system, the flywheel generator installed inside the cockpit, was designed and manufactured by Williams Hybrid Power following Porsche's specifications"

And Hulkenburg did 3 laps in it (after it had already finished on the podium at the prevbious VLN race)

Stupidly, I actually knew Audi had taken pole, so I have no idea why I said that! I'm blaming a total lack of sleep! hehe I knew it had lead the race for a while though.

AIUI it was the conventional petrol motor which gave up too, not the hybrid components

True, the hybrid system ran faultlessly, but the engine failed when the race was effectively won

yes, by engine, I meant the flat 6. I wouldn't call some electric motors an engine smile

sorry for confusion.
