A lot of the forums that ive be on always seems to hate the btcc but surely im not the only one that thinks the btcc is one of the best top level touring car series in the world. More fans seem to be at races and the coverage is getting beeter, compared to other series DTM, ETCC even the wtcc which i find all 3 quite dull the btcc this year is still as good as ever with 22 cars and 6 different cars on the grid it has the most variation of all the different series and with the new regs coming in next year new Manfactures surely will come in to play MG have said there interested, also volvo aswell and with the teams already in it chervolet, honda, ford, vauxhall, Bmw it may be the way forword in touring car racing.

It is good but I wish they wouldn't nudge each other off - it's not stock car racing after all. They used to respect each other and rely on skill and tactics that don't involve swapping paint.

Cant help agreeing with you some drivers are rough i do like a bit fo contact as it makes it more entertaining rather than just a precsseonal race like wtcc but this has be happening for a few years now and cant see it ending in a while.

Its getting better after a bit of a low spot a few years back.

I think the problem is too many of us remember 'the good old days' (well not so 'old days' when you take into account the whole lifetime of the sport!)... but you know what I mean?! The end of the 80's / early 90's (which for me is 'the good old days').

It's, er, very entertaining to watch!

Premier League Banger Racing! as they say on the PH forum

I personally enjoy the hard racing, panel bashing, rubbing. Doesn't seem as acceptable now than over 10 years ago since we have lot more privateers and new body parts is a costs they could preferably do without.

I really do not like the type of contact frequently displayed in the BTCC. They are demonstrating a lack of skill over patience and raceraft by constantly tipping the car in front into a spin on the entry to a corner, and I cannot understand how they get away with it as it must be outside the rules of the sport.

I watched a bit of WTCC on satellite on Friday and there were 2 examples of perfectly executed PIT turns in the first few laps before I changed channels.

IMO it is multi million pound stock car racing. They need to iron up the fronts and rears, change the rules to allow full contact and they are all set for Wimbledon Stadium - maybe even a figure of eight.

BTCC has always had a rubbin' is racing approach, which is fine - st happens. But the recent cynicism of nudging another car into an error so a driver can pass spoils it for me. This has as much a place in the non-contact motorsport as Maradonna's hand of God has in football.

Generally I love both the btcc and the wtcc, however there are some things I dont like.
For the btcc I wish they would have longer races, I feel that sometimes because the races are so short the drivers have to use some questionable tactics.
I dont like the way the rules are constantly being altered to artificially influence true performance. I dont agree with equalisation both in terms of adding and removing handicap weights and having dispensations for certain cars.If car is good it should win and if a car is bad then its up to the teams and engineers to make it better. The way the btcc has imposed a very high first gear on the BMW's is a joke imho.
Apart from that I love it! I just wonder what is going to happen when the Btcc ngtc rules are imposed and how thats going to work I hope it doesnt become like a one make cup race , whilst there can be good close racing I feel it may loose something without the different types of cars out on the track.

Rubbing is fine, deliberately taking out another driver who is faster than you as if you were a US cop doing a 'takedown'is not. Historically there has been one former privateer who seemed to popularise and legitimise this particular approach to tin top racing. Not good.

Fortunately,(or should it be unfortunately?) I am still able to remember saloon car racing from the 60's onwards.
The racing in those days was perhaps not quite as close as it is today(no win related ballasting)but apart from the occasional contact which is bound to occur in any close quarters racing environment, there didn't seem to be the blatant nerfing off which is a fact of life these days.

The fact that positions/points/wins are allowed to be gained by deliberately causing "racing incidents" is IMHO deplorable, the policing of these is ridiculously lax, standards could very quickly be raised by exclusions from events/points docking if the organisers wished, rather than relying on the personal opinions of the marshals for evidence of infringements, nowadays it is far easier with extensive TV,incar video and data logging records to be referred to in order to apportion blame justly.
If advantages gained by bully boy tactics were seen to be penalised severely just how long would it take to become extinct?,not very long,I'll bet.

The organisers don't seem to care unduly what happens as long as the TV /spectators are happy, but let's be honest all major series are more about marketing/advertising than racing, the spectacle makes the public watch and hopefully use the services on the mobile hoardings (cars) so the odd spectacular prang will get the punters to either the track or the sofa.

Perhaps my view is rather cynical but it would appear that some people actually like a bit of contact in racing, surely that what Stock cars are all about?

Since when?

I don't think I've ever seen a BTCC race where they didn't swap paint.

I've tried to watch it in recent years, but I just can't get into it. I found the support races more interesting than the touring cars, its just now what it once was

^^^^this, pretty much

The cars are rubbish, weight penalties are rubbish, reverse grids are rubbish, grids by lots are rubbish

Drivers, at least 30% of the grid are of a poor standard

One of the quicker drivers seems to believe its fine to punt people off at every corner. Trouble is Alan Gow seems to think its ok as well, at least when its Matt Neal doing it

Touring cars could be awesome, but not it is not at the moment because it has become a contact sport.
I'm all up for the ocasional tap, but not blatently punting people off every time.
Last race weekend I watched, plato and neil didn't do one single overtaking manouvre that would be acceptible if the rules were applied properly.

When i see tintops, I want good, aggressive racing with all the drama and visable mind games that entails. I don't want to see a bunch of drivers simply shove the other guy wide and drive past. Thats not proper racing, it's racing for idiots.

Some serious rose-tinted glasses in this thread, it's always been a contact sport!

The 500hp monsters were just a blip in the history of BTCC, before that they were using Minis, Escorts, Cortinas, Vivas, Jaaaags etc.

Rover SD1s 3.0 Capris was also agreat era with at lots of top line drivers, with the smaller capaity classes also providing great action with GTis and Alfasuds

The current crop of cars and drivers is the worst I can recall in 30 odd years
