sound level checks at spa for public driving
Discussion
planning a few days at spa and nurburgring soon and was wondering if anyone has been and noticed if they actually monitor and police the static 105db limit or is this simply up there as policy but not vigorously checked so long as you arent running something way over the top loud?
reason is that im pretty much unable to pass a 105db check though its tight thats for sure and i dont want to go all that way and then just have to sit out.
id ask the circuit but like many things in life, once you hoist your flag up everyone then sees it and you get noticed where you would have previously not been.

i have elbows i can put on the car to sneak by drive by testing but they arent effective with the static stuff.
ive seen people use an external muffler bolted to their tailpipe so i might look into this but it suddenly just all gets a bit silly for essentially a run around spa in a public session.
i just fancied a drive over and a day at spa and one on the nurburgring, nothing serious, just a roll around for the fun of it and then head back home. if im going to carry the stock of kwik fit with me and bolt it all on just to have it happen then it makes it a whole load more than i was really wanting.
its a road legal porsche cup i was planning to take, the only other option i have is a challenge stradale and that is not passing anyones test. it breaks 110db without even being close to the 75% throttle threshold.
the porsches deal with static testing very badly as the engine is right there at the back too so you get the noise from that reflecting up and adding to the overall test measurement.
generally if i dont hoon about like a clown most places dont care but if they enforce the static testing on cars then im not going to get by without something drastic.

Although they do have serious noise problems down there I've never been touched-& the last time I was running a straight through exhaust (albeit with a cat & turbo).
I have heard of certain cars triggering a drive by but I've never seen a static done there.
Out of interest they are doing regular static tests at the ring these days, although as I've found at most circuits it's a case of who you know....

thanks,
yeah i saw that too about the ring, however my info was that if you werent acting like a tool or totally off the scale (ie straight pipes and blatant about it) then you should be ok.their level is even lower at 98db or something i believe due to german motoring regulations.
my thinking was that if i knew i could get on at spa then i wouldnt be disappointed ref the ring. its just crazy to not go when its so near after going all that way.
to have a serious risk of being denied access to either makes the whole thing a potential waste of time however hence the post.
i know all tracks these days have some level set with a statement about policing it. my experience is that with a few exceptions they dont care much but it needs to be there for policy and PR.
having not done spa in a while and seeing the prominence of it on their website i thought it better to check how others have gotten on heading over and if they had seen others having issues
at the moment it seems like its a gamble at best. what i need to try and hone down on is the level of risk.

In my experience spa will be no problem mate, however I always use a dedicated track day (circuit days-they have one that coincides with a tf at the ring in early October), the ring is becoming more & more strict-we were pulled on both our last two trips but were under the limit.
The biggest problem I see is with the unreliability with the equipment they use to test. I pulled 108dbs in my 993 the other week at oulton & there's no way it's doing that. Result was still the sane though, no action on track & a wasted day.

In 5 years of doing trackdays at Spa I have never been or seen anyone noise tested, despite being around some loud machinery. I was there one year and the cat split on my Impreza and it sounded like a blooming dragster and I was still not pulled up on it.
The ring is a bit more strict. I have been asked to go and sort my exhaust out there when I was in a particularly loud car.
