No chance of this ever being enforced. Would Hamilton really have been banned from racing, I'd like to see them explaining that to the sponsors. Australia would find itself without a race before Hamilton did.

Hollow threat IMO.

If the superlicence requires, as one of its conditions of issue to the driver, compliance with all road traffic laws and that it could be revoked if anyone is caught transgressing those, then the drivers should turn round and tell the FIA to get lost.

Would be interesting to see who backed down first - the drivers or the FIA (at the prospect of seeing a rather empty grid for the first GP of 2011....). Would probably be the drivers, but it would be entertaining to see how long they lasted before showing their true colours... wink

Interesting to note as well that many of the F1 drivers live in Switzerland... hehe

There's a lovely little story about when Ayrton got stopped on the M25 doing several leptons at the height of his on-track duels with Mansell.

Plod strolled up to the driver's window and without looking at the driver said "So who do you think you are driving at that speed, Nigel Mansell?".

Grrrrrrgnashggrrrrrrrgnash etc.

Nothing new there. Stirling Moss lost his UK licence (and therefore his RAC Competition Licence) for a period in 1960 and raced under a US road and competition license. It may still be an RAC rule that you have to have a valid road licence to be allowed to race.

didn't/don't most who reside in Monaco just present their Monaco driving licence when stopped, and retain their "proper" licences?

You have to understand the Aussie view of cars, the press coverage and law enforcement.

Exceeding the speed limit by the tiniest amount can land you in trouble. Burnouts are considered to be lethal and can get your car confiscated permanently.

You think UK road law enforcement is 'lowest common' then you should try driving here...I cant even think of the words to express how retarded it is!

Joey Dunlop didn't have a road bike licence until quite late in his career. Local police used to turn a blind eye to him testing his race bikes on the main roads of an evening.

If I read another baseless, unfounded variation of that very tired old story, I will literally melt in to a heap of hopeless exasperation underneath my chair.

I heard it that when Nigel Mansell was a special constable, he would pull up the young lads in their Nova's speeding through the local village and ask in a slow monotone 'Who do you think you are, Ayrton Senna?'

The one I heard, he used to say:

''Who do you think you are, me?''

You really think it would be difficult to find 24 racing drivers prepared to accept this condition?

I reckon it would take, mmm, maybe 5 minutes to get them to sign up.
