Does anyone now if import duty or VAT will be payable if I import a 5 year old unregistered race car from an EU country? Looking at the HMCE website it looks like I'm OK with import duty but I'm not sure about the VAT. The seller is not charging VAT. Thanks

Brought one back a few years back, got a receipt from the seller confirming VAT had been paid and not reclaimed and that was that. This was from Germany, so no Vat/import to pay, that was done as a private purchase.

From within the EU.

No import duty (free movement of goods and all that)

If from a private individual or a non-VAT registered company, the asking price is the asking price...

If from a VAT registered company, and you are not VAT registered there should be a breakdown between pre-VAT and post-VAT price on the invoice.

If you are VAT registered, you pay the pre-VAT price and inform HMRC on the import VAT in the normal way.
