Holding street races in the UK to be made easier?

The restrictions on holding motor races on public roads across Britain could be eased by the new government.

Whilst I don't suppose this, if it happens, will lead to an F1 race on city streets in the UK, a round of the BTCC or a WRC Special stage could be interesting.

There are so many roads in the UK that would make a fantastic stage race! The A272 would be a prime example

Certainly making good proposals I wouldn't of dreamed of such things even being talked about under the previous govt!

has been at least partially successful. We are the only country that does not allow events to occur on British highways. Can't wait to see a mixed surface RAC rally using some of the roads over the yorkshire dales, with may be the Sunday through the forests of Dalby etc.

Our MSA whilst not perfect are genuinely quite good at forward thinking these days particularly in terms of the preservation of the sport. I suspect that part of the reason for the petition is that there are ever more legal and financial constraints on the use of forests for rallying.

I hope we get the change in the law asap.

i love the roads in sussex, where I grew up, they are awesome.

rally sussex would indeed be very good.

I think you'll find you can drive anywhere "balls out". Not sure members of the public would appreciate it if you're seen though.


Thankfully we don't have this stupid rule in place in Luxembourg, hence all the rallying and hillclimbs in the countryside.

Gt Yarmouth could really do with a full on race, the sea front and harbour would be really good. It could be Monaco with added chavs, taxes and cold weather.

We do allow them. However it takes an Act Of Parliament to suspend the Road Traffic Act in order for an event to go ahead. Hopefully the current inhabitant of No10 and his Colleagues will pass the powers to suspend down to a local level or come up with another sensible solution.

Forestry are getting increasingly twitchy over Rallying and the ability to share stage mileage with roads would be a huge boost to the sport.


Now Mr Cameron, if you would like to address the issue of NIMBY's moving near to race tracks and getting injunctions due to noise, i'll happily buy you a pint

If it goes through I'm sure they'll be enough people on here buying pints to get him horribly drunk so I'll buy him a large fried breakfast with extra black pudding and oat cakes for the morning after...

According to the article that is the plan. It would be a step in the right direction so lets hope that Local Authorities see the benefits, and that residents don't end up kyboshing what could be a boon for grass roots motorsport in the UK.

Waving the prospect of ££££ at local traders will make it easier to get events put on. From memory, the Jim Clark Rally is worth something like £3 million to the economy up in the Borders.
