Did ITV used to show this on late night telly? Before Mansell hopped over I must add.

I'm really sure of this. I seem to remember them advertising late night telly montage and I vividly remember a clip of a train of cars snaking through the esses/chicane at the back section of Surfer's Paradise.

There was a show called 'Chequered Flag' that was on late night ITV in 1992, but that mainly showed national racing like the BTCC and Rover championships. Don't think it showed Indycar. It was killed off by Nigel Mansell's Indycar Year, which was presented by James Allen. Unless it was on Sport AM or something like that.

They did, but it was on at really stupid o'clock, and invariably covered races that were at least two weeks old.

In the very early 90's the definitely showed Indy racing or ws it CART? I get confused. I remember some of the drivers being Theo Farbi, Andretti, Rahal, Sullivan etc. It late and on for about 3 hours but I sort of got into it a bit.

I really dont remember that but they could have filled time with he dreadfull "wide world of sport" that often featured american racing, briefly. It is more usually seen on airplane channels and skips though a multitude of sports.

It was on Screensport, a long defunt analogue satellite channel.

Also around then was european Eurosport , not the British Eurosport we get now. They used to show every F1 session except the race. And the fabulous Tractor pulling !!

My favourite on the old Eurosport was the stock cars indoors at Paris Bercy. 3 hours of chaos commentated on by Martin Haven who had a hard job to make sense of it all.

The Indy I used to watch was on ITV because I didn't have cable or satelite back then.

Highlights of the 500 were shown on World Of Sport for years. I can't remember any other race coverage but i dare say something was shown.

The whole reason I got Sky in 1990 was so I could see the Indy 500

Just getting ready for a long night with the Bathurst and a short interlude for F1 qually.

Fairly sure I can remember watching CART on ITV before Mansell raced, possibly tape delayed and shown midweek in the small hours. Wasn't Eurosport, as I didn't have it back then.
