VW Motorsport - A Toss-Up Between NASCAR and F1
Car giant will decide motorsport strategy in November
VW's possible plans to enter F1, which we told you about back in May, will be 'discussed' in November, according to the company's motorsport representative, Hans-Joachim Stuck - along with the possibility of entering NASCAR.
The German giant (that's VW, not Stuck) has been rumoured to be eyeing F1 when the engine regulations change in 2013, possibly with a Porsche or Audi branded team.
Stuck told the Financial Times Deutschland, however, that he would not comment on the speculation other than to say that a meeting in November is planned "in which the (company's) strategy will be discussed".
He did also say that a VW entry into NASCAR was actually more likely - so VW's future involvement in F1 is far from certain.
Discussion
VW in NASCAR don't see why not? Bloody Toyota managed it and are doing well with the Camry. I have alot of American friends who are into their VWs in a big way, could also bring a new crowd to NASCAR something of which they need. (Although thats more down to the racing being regulated too heavily that lost them fans) as far as I know anyway.

Porsche might, just might, shift more stock with an F1 programme but I doubt it'll pay for itself & in any case they don't seem to have much trouble shifting their wares right now without an active F1 programme.
2 premium car manufacturers have left F1 recently (BMW & Jaguar) having realised that the sport just isn't cost effective meaning there is no point in Audi getting involved. Similarly there is no point in VW going somewhere that both Honda & Toyota have left.
Which leaves Nascar, where Toyota, a major competitor for VW, is.
If I was a betting man I'd stick my wedge on that option.

...NASCAR is expensive but not F1...
Does anyone know how the two compare? I'd guess F1 is much dearer to run, but I don't knowA "people's car" in Nascar or F1 ?!
What next!
Whichever is the most expensive, both are anyway.
VW-Audi don't have any money problem: they keep on buying (Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, and so on, as well as producing new prototypes all the time).
But I don't want to see a racing car with a badge that resembles a Swatika; I'll surely stop looking at F1 races.
And as many around say: motorcycle racing is far more spectacular. This is certain, although I don't like vehicles that can't stand up without having to hold them!

As far as I know, Toyota is the largest motor manufacturer in the States, with five big plants. By supporting them in NASCAR, the Americans are still actively supporting their domestic motor industry. Don't know about VW's presence out there but they might do well out of a campaign there. Unless the fabled "World Engine" is adopted in F1 then I can't see them entering. Fair play for their recent F3 and off road efforts though. For Signature to beat ART in the Euro Series is a big deal, despite M-B's protestations that they have no works teams.
It just seems wrong to see a VW in F1! (dont know if they were in the past) I mean VW's brand is a bit boring/dull right? When anyone says VW i think of that film Equilibrium! VW joining F1 would be as interesting as Wayne Rooney publishing a dictionary. Under a Porsche badge mmmmmm maybe!
Now Lamborghini or Bugatti or Aston Martin joining F1.........??? That i would like to see!!
