IndyCar and NASCAR on TV/Sky

Hello,

Have done some hunting around but what do I need to do to see IndyCar and NASCAR on a British TV? I am guessing some is on pay-per-view/subscription like ESPN

And what sort of time are they on?

The girlfriend wants Sky and happy to get if we both getting something out of it, more talent shows does not equal value for money though FX and some other stuff like NASCAR would.

Thanks for any advice...and is kind of motorsport related but happy for it to be moved if need be.

Don't know about Indy, but NASCAR is shown on Open Access 3 (Sky channel 190) on a Saturday or Sunday night. The time the races are on varies depending on when they're broadcast - they're usually live. And there's no charge for it. Just do what we do and check the listings on a Friday night.

If you want it on Freesat or any generic non-Sky feed, you'll find the channel at 11259 V 27500 2/3.

Indycar was on sky sports this year, don't know about next season.
The 2010 season has finished now, a couple of weeks back.

There's only 2(?) rounds left of Nascar too and i can't see it being on Open Access again next year, so it's a wait and see where that one ends up at the moment.

ESPN American may well pick it up in 2011 (a subscription channel on Sky) or possibly Bloomberg TV (Financial news channel with some sports at weekends) as it has done with the GT1 Championship.

There are 3 NASCAR Sprint Cup races left:

7th Nov Texas
14th Nov Phoenix
21st Nov Homestead.

If you go to http://www.jayski.com/ and click the race info page it gives you a start time (usually about quarter past the hour), convert to UK time and just tune in then - the coverage will start about an hour beforehand.

I hope it does continue on Open Access next year. At the moment its kinda odd, because when the yanks go for adverts we keep the coverage, so we actually see more than they do ! it all goes silent as the commentators stop and then start again when the adverts finish.

Add in the Nationwide and Truck Series and there's still plenty of good racing left. I've actually enjoyed those more than the main series this year for some reason. Nationwide seems to race on more road courses as well, which is always good fun.

When it was on Sky, if they didn't go to commercial they kept the US feed running during their adverts and had their studio "experts" talking over the silence. When they first started broadcasting it they went back to the studio - since they invited comments by email, mine was "I don't want to look at Keith Huwen, I know the local broadcaster provides a feed during the US adverts so please show that instead" . They evidently had more than one like that as within a week they changed it.

I prefer getting the entire US feed including the pre-race stuff as we are at the moment, but wonder what will happen next year. OA3 is free to air and has no adverts at all so someone, somewhere is spending a great deal of money to make it happen and seemingly getting nothing back.

Any ideas as to when we will know for next season which networks have bought the rights?

Would hate to pay for ESPN for a year and then have to watch even more football.

They're normally very late to announce who they're going with. I recall phoning Sky the day of a race to see whether they had the contract or not, because the choice of broadcaster hadn't been announced.

Have you tried finding a torrent of Nascar races for a certain year or season? I haven't looked, but since I don't have cable I just torrent WRC seasons and watch them all in a few days. I know this doesn't help you with watching every Sunday or so for live races, but it's an option if you can find it.

Has to be said that while the actual racing on the track wasn't as exciting as at many races, there was plenty of drama even so.

Did you hear the cheer from the crowd when the altercation started? You'd have thought the 88 had taken the lead, the amount of noise they were making .
